The problem is, bills / mortgage loans / bank accounts don’t really care whether one like the idea of having so many strangers walking around 😉

Proposed cap of 90 days per year is good to deter people from buying or renting units for sole purpose of operating as airbnb host.

I'll just share our experience with frequent visitors in a quite luxury condo where even with concierge & security service, there are owners who sub-rent to ST tourists coming-in & leaving the premises.

We've a mix of owner blocks & service apartment block. Service Apt visitors hv strict access to their apts (Ling or short term), but for those residential blocks, owners can get any number of access cards to accord ST visitors access w/o their presence. We've a mixbagvif Indo, Taiwanese, PRC, Indian & even a Norwegian & English couple owner. There are 2 groups - the Indo & the PRCs who wld hv lots of 'guests'.

The Indo owners usually keep to their own nationalities when they hv 'guests' which turn up for a range of 3-days, some others up to a few months for medical works in nearby pte hospitals. The rest of guests ranges fr pino tourists to PRC or Korean tourists. We cld tell by their conversation as they wait at the lift lobby. S'times we hear them dragging their luggage early in the morning & the rolling noice are a real nuisance if u get it every other day. What is more disturbing is, one time, I was waiting at the lift & there was a group of burly looking men with deep scars on their cheeks & arms (like a long parang slash) :yikes: conversing very loudly & uncogh in full view of my kids. I was quite nervy myself, so imagine the kids!

They shld just be confined to hotels, hostel, etc.

S-T strangers in residential environment - I'll vote NO good money to earn or not. :stompfeet:

can earn money is good but not at the expense of our 'safe' living environment mah. imagine now we could let the kids go downstairs play on their own and in future sure will have some worries..can designate certain blocks/area for short term accom or not?

right that the 3mths max may not make it so attractive else more jialat 😓 but then 1 building got so many units, 1 unit 3 mths also trouble..wants safer environment we got to go for landed arh? so jialat meh, so much of oversupply of housing that we need to resort to this kind of arrangement  not to mention arh not all security guards the 'stern' type 😓 😓

The challenge, as is always, on policing and administering it.
