      Before

      SP \tU + 152
      T \tU

      After:
      SP \tU + 152 – 301 = U -149
      T\t(U + 152 – 301) * 4 = (4U – 596)

      Total amount before and after is the same:

      U + 152 + U = U – 149 + (4U – 596)
      2U + 152 = 5U -745
      3U = 897
      U = 299

      Total they have altogether = 2U + 152 = 750

      Ps: You might want to go to this part of the forum to post your specific syllabus questions. They are sorted into subjects & levels & there are a lot more gurus there to help you out.

        301-152=149

        Before:
        SP: U+301
        T: U+149

        After:
        SP: U
        T : 4U=U+149+301=U+450

        U=450/3=150
        Total=150x5=750

          Thank you very much for your replies.

          Is there a model drawing approach to solve this problem? It is easier to be solved in algebra as you have highlighted above but what school expects is the solution with model drawing.
          Once again great effort and really appreciate it.
          Best regards

            That is the model approach.
            You have to draw out the models then write out the equations.

            For the drawings, substitute the U for a box and put U inside.
            Even in modeling, you still need to use equations (single unknown).
