I tentatively booked mine ahead of time after getting the handover date fr ID. The movers I hv been using are very accommodating & will change move date when I need to. Just given them a few days’ notice. They’ll mobilize diff teams. I get to specify my team leaders & ano experienced uncle bcoz of our custom-made table, clock & other items.

They give me 40-50 boxes anytime ahead of moving for early packing, although they can do the packing for u but I prefer handling my stuff on my own & label them by color-code.

Agree with you that parents have to set clear rules & limits & enforce them well.

We cannot pass on the responsibilities to school, altho we hope the educators can hv a set of rules to limit usage & similarly enforce. Not suggesting we go back to no hp or technology days.

DH is more lax with kids. I'll watch their time spent, but when time to put away (e.g. By 9.30pm DH suppose to be the one keeping), so DC will put on the table. Minutes later when DH doing his work, DC quietly sneak away & use again. I was watching, but u know, as mums, we multi-task. I can be packing up my stuff, I'll notice every small movements. I saw DH eyes was turning towards DC but he didn't issue any warning. After a couple of chats abt enforcement, DH now hv a hang abt how I am firm & quick in arresting a bad habit before kids get a leeway.

We put kids work areas in a quiet corner of living area (within clear sight) - we call it the study corner. Charging stations all at living room. No data plan. Individual SIM card to be topped up on regular basis. All hp kept out of sight by 9.30pm & collected next morning fr 6am. Allow wifi access only when hmwk need research & googling for info (usually I delay this gratification - wait for dad's wifi when he returns u can go online so meantime do written work, planning, studying work. Once in a while, when it's closing deadline, I open up my wifi for early completion of hmwk.

It's alr not easy btwn parents to work parenting rules out. Can we expect this fr sch? Teachers hv to teach & guide our kids academically, and we're imposing time on them to police our kids. We'll hope most parents hv well behaved kids to minimize need for lesson-time to be wasted on lecturing on 自我控制. So, as parents, we guide at home & work with school for special assembly talks or workshops on device usage. I know not all schools hv strong PSG nor there be many parents having spare hours.

Still good to collaborate so tt young ones hv good rules & limits to work by.
I find Esteema's responses (above and earlier) very useful, and will like to share them with other parents not here.
        Here's something to share:
I know of a primary school that has recently announced that kids are not allowed the use of mobile devices whenever they're on the school premises. At any time, and in emergencies, the kids are told they have a telephone to use in the school's General Office. And yes, I've seen kids lining up to use that phone during recess or at dismissal. The kids are told that should mobile phones be seen in school, the phones would be confiscated and only their parents can retrieve them from the school.

When ACSBarker principal confiscated kid's hp, the father sued. So, schools are targeted by some overbearing parents when they're trying to help the school of children to learn values together.

I wld support such school effort, esp with any form of un-intrusive punishments. Parents can do harm by being overly protective these days. Not to mention over-providing.

              prepare for false alarm.
there was one night there were so many flying insects which usually means rain is expected...in the end, false alarm.

Just labelled some boxes...also dumped several items which will never be used. Like what you advised, things which i won't use now will never be used. Hubby just threw them in a box one night while I was coaching daughter.

After doing some packing, I feel better after sweating.
When should I contact the mover to ask for a quote? Because there are some personal stuff which I want to bring over myself.

You shld ask alr. They need to arrange time for someone to come to yr place to do assessing. Just point to them what u are bringing over. Tell them specifically what WILL NOT be moved (u'll move yrself) so it'll not be counted in for estimation. They'll quote base on lorry load. On the day itself if not nec, will not charge u. (make sure these are written in yr quotation or on yr hp.

I'll dismantle any shelves to minimize SPACE taken up on vehicle bcoz in their rush (convenience of time) they'll not collapse for u except maybe beds & they'll likely charge if it's tables (glass tables they'll quote u insurance charges in case ..). I put all the heavy stuff for movers & light stuff I bring along whenever I go to new place to clean, organize & inspect. The kids carry their own soft-toys. :boogie:

I spent over 3 weeks to evaluate 6 movers' quotations & how comfortable (trust, etc) I can work with them on 1st move. Subsequently, I only call for my fav 3 to touch-base & work out which mover suits my timing, requests.

                      problem is
the things I plan to get them move will be the 3 beds, dining table, dryer and washing machine.
I managed to get 30 solid boxes from mum's neighbour who shipped their things over from Korea with lots of bubble wrap.
there are a few boxes of fragile stuff which I used several layers of bubble wrap but I think I will be bringing over myself, as well as light ones every night.
