There are benefits for Spore :

      - more jobs for Sporeans
      - bring in more shoppers (for high end goods & electronics?)
      - more tourism (if it connects with future China Belt facilitating easy travel) for other neighbors (Thais, Viets, Mynmarese…) besides M’sians.
      - easier & safer travels for Sporeans across for seafood, cheaper shopping, massages, etc?

      Just some initial thots

          - Jobs created for Singaporeans and $$ for Singapore will be minimal, given that majority of the line and projects are in MY. Instead of service sector jobs going to Johoreans who don't mind braving the journey on the causeway, we can now outsourced our PMET jobs to folks from KL who don't mind braving the journey on the HSR

          - More tourism isn't going to happen... unless the train extends to BKK, RGN or VTE, which isn't going to happen.

          - I agree that it will be easier and safer travel for Singaporeans, if you want to go for seafood, shopping and massage. But hor, KUL isn't the place that Singaporeans think of when talking about seafood, shopping and massage.

That said, with the lower MYR and affordable prices, maybe it's time to look for a place to retire along the HSR.

Better to hv M’sians who’ll bridge neighborly relationships. We don’t want to make enemies coz they can shut us down completely

Exactly, more competition for PMET jobs. As for shopping and massage, rather go Bangkok.

Anyone watch 焦点 on channel 8 last night?

Mediacorp interviewed Dr. M before the election. He said the water price at 3 sen is too cheap and must be reviewed if he won the GE.

The agreement to sell water to SG for 3 sen that run till 2061.

Yes it will be more competitive with more ppl coming in from KL. Many jobs were already being taken up by ppl staying in JB traveling to and fro the causeway everyday.

Yes I watched the channel 8 show in which Tun said that Najib had been very soft and lenient with Singapore ! He is coming to get back at us ! But he didn’t think that many Mslaysians and PR are staying here and making a living in Singapore ? Not only Singaporeans are drinking their water right?!

“before the election” refers to an interview 2 years ago :skeptical:

We buy water at 3sen per 1000gallon. We sell them back at 50sen per 1000gallon. When they raise the water selling price, they will have to pay a higher buying price. :skeptical:
Considering that Johor depends on us to treat part of their water and Singapore is no longer 100% reliant on their water, not sure we should be that bothered. Tun is no mathematician but he can still manage simple arithmetic. He is also a shrewd politician who knows how to whip his electorate to support him.

But for 焦点 to throw out an interview from a long time ago (2 years is a long time in politics)? Probably still trying to do Jib gor a favour.

I think the interview was conducted recently before the election as mentioned in the show
