prepare for false alarm.
there was one night there were so many flying insects which usually means rain is expected...in the end, false alarm.
Just labelled some boxes...also dumped several items which will never be used. Like what you advised, things which i won't use now will never be used. Hubby just threw them in a box one night while I was coaching daughter.
After doing some packing, I feel better after sweating.
When should I contact the mover to ask for a quote? Because there are some personal stuff which I want to bring over myself.
You shld ask alr. They need to arrange time for someone to come to yr place to do assessing. Just point to them what u are bringing over. Tell them specifically what WILL NOT be moved (u'll move yrself) so it'll not be counted in for estimation. They'll quote base on lorry load. On the day itself if not nec, will not charge u. (make sure these are written in yr quotation or on yr hp.
I'll dismantle any shelves to minimize SPACE taken up on vehicle bcoz in their rush (convenience of time) they'll not collapse for u except maybe beds & they'll likely charge if it's tables (glass tables they'll quote u insurance charges in case ..). I put all the heavy stuff for movers & light stuff I bring along whenever I go to new place to clean, organize & inspect. The kids carry their own soft-toys. :boogie: -

I spent over 3 weeks to evaluate 6 movers' quotations & how comfortable (trust, etc) I can work with them on 1st move. Subsequently, I only call for my fav 3 to touch-base & work out which mover suits my timing, requests.

the things I plan to get them move will be the 3 beds, dining table, dryer and washing machine.
I managed to get 30 solid boxes from mum's neighbour who shipped their things over from Korea with lots of bubble wrap.
there are a few boxes of fragile stuff which I used several layers of bubble wrap but I think I will be bringing over myself, as well as light ones every night. -

Movers would have to dismantle the beds, protect the glass and marble table. The glass on top of the dining table is very heavy...when we moved in, the movers were stressed having to carry along the long corridor...fortunately there is a lift right in front and the lift is just 5 steps away at the new place. -
These days HDBs/BTOs are on lift levels, enabling movers use of trolleys. Two guys can load on & carefully roll them to the vehicle. The movers I used had this motorized lever up every item, relieving any need for 20-men exercise. Yes, they still need to be careful but work efficiency has been improved alot.
It's good that they dismantle yr big items such as beds. It's easier to load & maximize yr space, owise u'll be paying for more vehicle space. Hence, my suggestions u dismantle any shelves if u hv them, as these are the ones tt most movers don't bother to spend time dismantling piece by piece of shelves. But do rmbr to attach all yr screws & pins in a ziploc against your specific shelves/beds before they go missing.
Our last move, we donated to the families who need our items thro Pass-It-On & community social workers. Started totally brand new beds, sofa, dining tables & TVs. Expensive move. :moneyflies: -

renovation is going to cost quite a bit although I didn't go all the way to do tv console & top hung kitchen cabinets.
thank goodness the beds are still in good condition...the dining table is a marble oval piece bringing over as well as dryer and washing machine.
just came back from Jem...it sure felt good after 2 months house arrest.
this morning, the plumber went to install heater as well as toilet accessories. -

If need to dispose of old piano that sounds wonky, how? Get the movers to leave at the bulky disposal area? :skeptical:
Or should we get it tuned and donate to the school? I don't think tuning can help much as I think a few keys are sticky and the sound is not only out of tune, but rather 1 key can produce 2 sound type (don't know how to describe) and sound echoy.
