Fairy:
I don't think rgs' principal invited any TOP pri school students for tea. 'TOP' is subjective, depends on the school one is from. She does invite national players from sports for tea though. Almost always, these are not TOP students.

RGS does invite TOP pri sch students for \"Tea With The Principal\".
my gal received the invitation card last yr
(heard fr her FT, names of the top few pupils based on P5 results were submitted to RGS's principal when she corresponded with the primary schools)
just for information, pl refer to the below postings that i had posted under the thread \" All about DSA\".
Yes, RGS write to primary schools (don't know how many of them) to invite top few pupils of the school cohort for the tea session with the principal.
(heard that they started only when the new Principal takes over)

last year, there were a total of 4 girls fr my gal's sch being invited.
We went for the session, the principal briefed us on the school itself and off course giving data of their outstanding RI (JC) A level results.
They would definitely touch on the DSA issue.......
During the Questions and Answers session, parents asked whatever they wanna to know abt the DSA.

though my gal, same as yr gal, was not keen on RGS, we still went for the tea session to \"experience\" the atmosphere/environment of RGS..........

just sip tea and chit chat? what else ?

No sip tea or coffee leh, haha, just some finger food and syrup drink 😉
then kwai kwai sat there and listen to talk by P and some fellow pupils.......
macham watching “advertisement” as only hears all the good things, same goes for other sch lah
(actually, we need not to go as my niece is in RGS, so more or less know what to expect in RGS)
then followed by Questions and Answers session…..…also not many questions raised.
Oh, I am surprised. May I know which primary school was your dd from? Is she at RGS now? Wonder if any NYPS pupils other than those who excelled in sports were invited last year? It will not be easy for the principal to choose as the main streamers & GEPers do not take the same exam till P6 Prelim. My daughter's friends, who were top in Sports, not in academnic were invited though. And I understand the recommendation was done by their coach, not principal. In fact, the principal had shared that she has no idea what RGS was looking for in a potential DSA candidate while shedding some light on NYGH's.

sorri for my late reply as i din follow this thtread closely

my gal did not choose RGS
she is fr a all girls' pri sch but i believe the principal invited not only the all girls' pri sch, she included the co-ed pri schools as well
as seen fr the list of schs when we signed in our attendence during the \"tea with principal\" session

think the invitation by principal is only implemented recently (when the new principal took over the position)
as my niece who is currently in RGS, sec3, did not receive such invitation when she was in P6.

btw, invitation to \"Tea with Principal\" session does not mean a gauranteed place for DSA,
as the pupils still need to go thru the DSA selection process,
is only an introduction to the potential targetted pupils to make RGS as their choice
so it doesn't really matter whether they take the same exams.......

nonetheless it is still a marketing strategy from RGSS

recently more and more IP schools are coming out with new ways to attract the students to join them … top students always have more choices… facts of life

haha, might as well start at end of P3, aim for those who are selected for GEP 😉

selected for GEP is no guarantee a good one .... some have attitude problem, some were 'hot-housed' into GEP and could not rise to the challenge and got demoralised before PSLE...
