Dunman High School (Junior High)

Currently nearest is Mountbatten. Katong Park station will open in 2023, very near DHS. One and only bus 158 outside the school.

I think it is safe. Can choose to walk along the more brightly lit main road. Many of them walk and in groups. Take about 10 min and many will go to Mac or KFC to chill.yap_susan:
My son is studying at DHS. He walks from Mountbatten to school. Cut through those HDB blocks. Faster than 158.
After 5.30 pm evening, after Cca end: is it still safe for girls, to cut across DHS to Mountbatten MRT, via HDB blocks ? -
Should be safe cos they usually walk out with classmates. A huge school with thousands of students. Many leave school from 5 plus onwards. If CCA 6 plus onwards, I would say it is safe.

Does anyone have children in DHS Chinese Orchestra? Can share the no. of times of training per week in Year 1 and then subsequent years?

A mummy told me before (her DD now graduated) that Kids in CO need to sign up for compulsory external training with a DHS's approved music school. You may like to call the school to find out more. -

Seriously? You are actually asking whether it is safe to cut across HDB blocks? :slapshead:yap_susan:

Went with a mummy this morning to submit the DSA hard copies. Walked from Mountbatten mrt to DHS. Not far (20mins for both of us aunties lol) and very safe.
-
In the morning, there is even a road Marshall to direct safe traffic for the students. These are the ones who walked from mrt.
Biggest school in Singapore about a few thousand students? -
Hi my girls are v interested in joining DHS after visiting the OH. I would like to understand more about the sch from the parents:
- the sch is known to be very academically-inclined. Is that true and how is that manifested in Everyday school life?
- for kids weak in Chinese, how do they receive help on this?
- CCAs. Are they free for all or like some top IP schools, are subject to selection or quota
- what are the typical sch hours including sat
- for bright but lazy child, will it be a struggle? -

well mostly it just means that students are more kancheong about assignments and tests. many ppl (or their parents) are dead serious about their grades. And during tests season everyone will be going crazy with studying and we will complain to everyone within earshot.

DHS actually have a lot of people bad at Chinese haha. They can ask for consultation (or if they are bad enough, the teacher will ask them for it) and in year 3 they can drop to O-level Chinese (from Higher Chinese) if they really cannot cope.
- CCAs. Are they free for all or like some top IP schools, are subject to selection or quota
All CCAs will have audition. In general Sports and Performing Arts will need experience or strong interest. UGs are more free for all though
- what are the typical sch hours including sat
School starts at 8am on Mon-Thur and 9am on Fri. Dismissal time gets later as you age, it's usually in the mid-afternoon
- for bright but lazy child, will it be a struggle?
The only people who are lazy
1) Know they can get the grades while being lazy
2) Don't care about their grades
But we are not really given a chance to be lazy per se given that there are still assignments to do and projects to complete.
As a parent, I feel that my children is/had been coping pretty well in DHS.
