Choosing and Evaluating Primary Schools

I agree with you on this.
I have a different thought regarding the fish analogy. In my opinion, some fish need a bigger pond in order to grow. If the pond is too small or unsuitable, in the end the fish will suffer. So I think the pond has to be just right, not too big (super competitive school), not too small (super laid back school).
Must ustand how yr child will strive. Don't follow Competition blindly owise we may be setting up our child up to demoralization or throwing yr child in a stifling environment. Some child had been easily bored as a very young child & learn very quickly. I had to put in more interesting programmes to engage my kids fully owise they create havoc at home. -

The question is:
At what Phase? -

Past history refers to this page:
https://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/article/singapore-primary-1-registration-school-balloting-history/
Current, you can refer to MOE:
https://www.moe.gov.sg/admissions/primary-one-registration/vacancies
Any schools with registration < vacancies = no ballot required
If registration > vacancies, check with schools individually. -

Interesting perspective and agree. Have been hearing this fish pond analogy quite often but did not think too much into it.

My boy is really the creative sort, always thinking of ideas and reinventing play (no homework yet except berries..) and I want to find him an environment that supports his development and not stifle or bore him. -
Hi, just checking will you register a school near to home area or register for a good school (Chong Fu - alumni school) that is a travelling distance away?
My gal will be in P1 in Year 2021. Is it too early to make decisions? Thanks -

Which schools do U have that are <1km of your house now? If u don’t mention, we can’t give a proper opinion. Not all neighborhood schools are equal u know.
And it’s never too early! This is kiasu parents forum after all

If the \"school near to home area\" requires balloting within 1km, and Chongfu that is a \"travelling distance away\" does not, that makes Chongfu a better option. However, if the \"travelling distance away\" requires you to start your journey from Jurong West or Changi, you may want to think twice.

Without all these 'unknowns', it is impossible to make a decision.
Last but not least, P1 in 2021 meaning registration in 2020, that is less than 2years away. It isn't early, in fact, some may consider it late because Phase 2B (assuming you aren't interested in Chongfu due distance, or the school near your place) may not no longer be an option for you in some of the more popular schools (PV registration closed, insufficient time to use the GRL route). -

Travelling from Bishan to Yishun. Need to change shuttle bus as well. I think should have school bus option but I heard the further you stay the bus pick up timing will be earlier!! (Poor kids how to have sufficient sleep like that)

Ai Tong i think cant get in as is a super popular choice. Nearby neighborhood sch need to take public transport too but travelling time should be less than 30mins vs. Chong Fu
I asked my friends they say they dint want to stress the kids. Just go to a convenient near to home school will do.
