Do you know anything about Gan Eng Seng Primary?
Beyond the discussion on 'branded' and 'neighbourhood' schools, it should be noted that ALPS faces the possibility of balloting within 1km in 2019.xarain:
Hiya. Similar boat.
My son is eligible for SJI Junior's Phase 2A(1) however the distance between that school to my home is not ideal.
Instead ALPS to our home (Tanglin View) is only 800m hence it sounds like a no-brainer for my son to attend ALPS over SJI. (Yes i got 'scolded' by my peers for giving up a 'branded' school over a 'neighborhood' school.. but hey every school is a good sch right? haha)
My gut feels that ALPS would be the better choice longer term. I still could recall the dreadful mornings of having to wake up up at 5.45am 20 years ago to catch the bus / mrt to sch. This should be aligned to your concerns too.
Good luck!
Afternote: His enrollment starts on 2019 (i.e. 2020 P1) so pardon my kiasu-ness
You have to consider the real possibility of missing out on ALPS due to the ballot, and also missing out of SJIJ because the only window of opportunity (Phase 2A1) has passed. Apart from ALPS, you would have to be comfortable with Gan Eng Seng Primary as your next option as well.
This year, after many parents recommend Kellock/Queenstown and suddenly oversubscribed.
Gan Eng Seng will be the next? -

[/quote]Hi Floppy, Yes occurred to us as a high risk which in worst case is having no seat in either SJI or ALPS. So something for us to chew on for the next 10 months or so....

Question:
The enrollment this year on MOE's website is showing for 2C 113 vacancies vs. 128 applicants.
Given that it was mentioned that < 1km + SC required balloting, does this mean that all 128 applicants faill in this bracket? -
xarain:
Someone in the other thread says 125 SC within 1km balloting for 113 vacancies. Have to wait for MOE for finalised number.

Nonetheless, 100+ SC within 1km is highly possible, given the large number of developments around ALPS in recent years. -
125 SC within 1km? so the remaining 3 is outside of 1km? hmm i tried getting the breakdown from the school but they wouldn’t disclose it so not sure if this number is correct. but to err on the side, i would just assume 128 as all SC within 1km for balloting

Just assume all is the best way to go!!!

so far APS balloting is for SC within 1km. it's so hot until PRs don't even get to ballot. -

Does this also mean that no chance if you are \"SC and over 1KM?\"Dino:
