Prelims is around this time of the year. A month or so before psle.

Won't be used for DSA purposes but I suppose more important as a gauge of how ready the child is to take on the big one coming up.

prelims are set so tough till kids are demoralized. but it's a wake up call for them.
prelim oral should have been over. good luck for your orals next week.

Is this really true - that prelims are set tougher in general?
Even compared to the usual school standards?
Probably meant to be wake up call.

most schools set extremely out of the box questions for prelims…a teacher friend told me even neighbourhood schools set maths papers which make students cry after the exam.

Cannot finish compo in time is more of a time-mgt issue than teachers setting a tough paper.
I think the tough paper scenario would be more like Maths in which there are some super difficult questions that take up the students' time if they don't remember to skip the question then come back later. A few of those types of questions in in Paper 2 would eliminate many many marks.

the child could be at a loss which compo question to attempt...ended up insufficient time to complete.
problem sum questions are tough especially prelim exams. they are out of the world!

some kids are stressed when their classmates keep asking for paper! so please teach your kids to ignore and focus on their own exams.

I used to be one of those who keep asking for papers. Not because I wrote a lot but I kept writing wrong introduction and do not want to waste time using correction tape. LOL

correction tape not advisable to use...hope the kids have been weaned off.
imagine the exam scripts stacked tightly on top of each other? the tape which is used to cover mistakes will be stuck and what should not been seen is revealed.
some kids are stressed when classmates around them keep asking for paper and they are at a loss whether they are writing sufficient for compo.
