      lee_yl,

Do a heart-to-heart talk with yr hubby. Prepare a list of considerations & talk thro it. It's really like a decision to adopt an 'extra' kid/family member to yr h'hold. Better tt you guys verbalise every considerations & take decisive actions asap.

Do asap coz looks like yr hubby in double-bind as well. Help both yrself to talk thro quickly & stick to yr discussion agmt.

Don't let it drag out now tt u know hard to trace owner. Once decision made, u'll not feel so restless & stressed out. Emotional baggage is hard to carry ard to yr day-to-day chores & esp so with yr DD2 PSLE prep. Prelim is close on her heels!

      Map out action plans.

If you keep - set up doggy's cosy corner, source regular meals, bring for regular vet appt, regular exercise to reduce doggie's weight & strength his muscles, etc. Of course, discuss the consequences of eventual demise & emotions mgt. All these to fit & juggle with yr busy schedule. Finally, set a time for yr hubby to inform yr MIL of decision to keep doggy

If you let go - source for possible adoption whether yr neighbor's auntie/uncle, SPCA or other specialize rehoming groups. There are many, many caring & passionate dog lovers who wld pair dogs for those in real need of a companion (elderlies, partially/fully blind, kids of special circumstances needing a dog for companionship whilst going through some therapy). After u sent for adoption, u may hv regular visits to settle doggy.

Settle yr doggy issue fast to relieve yr entire h'hold of the stressful emotional drag now. I wld say quickly before much precious time is wasted as it's alr mid-Aug. Prelim is in 3/4 weeks?

Don't feel despair or burdening us KSP on this thread coz time spent journeying with you is just as ME TIME. I certainly don't mind walking thro with u on this. :snuggles: Base on so many mum's sharing here, I'm just as certain we wanna journey with you as well. :grphug:

Actually I am in a very very emo state now, haha.

I read the posts here, don’t know why I feel like tearing liao. My DH also like that. 5 min ago say keep him, 5 mins later say we can’t.

oh :hugs: looks like you are getting more to 'want to keep liao'..dont stress yourself too much..even if you decided want to keep him now, going forward if one day you and family decided that GR boy is too much to handle..then can oso start looking around for a family to adopt, yeah. How often GR boy needs to see a vet and how much per visit? His food will add up how much per mth? Can dog eat the meat we eat instead of the canned beef? If can just cant add the salt and sauces, can take out some and cook for him separately..can cook more and store in fridge or not

You don't have to cook for it. Kibble is easy and convenient. There are plenty of good brands out there (avoid supermarket brands like Purina/Beneful/Pedigree. Those aren't good). You mentioned he doesn't eat kibble. If he's hungry, he'll eat. Dogs won't starve themselves. Kibble plus a spoonful of canned food mixed in is another option, just to get him used to it.

Leeyl, dun stress up-even if u are not decided yet - prep your mind and heart that u & dh are continuing the kindness & good deed until a suitable new owner appears (Or otherwise)

your neighbor wants to adopt? i though this is gd idea -so near u to see & still care for goldie anytime

I have soft spot for white maltese - love the black big eyes
my aunt has a light brown female - very timid n cute -she will hide under sofa or

Photo taken this morning around 11am after I braved myself to bring him downstairs to Pee. Need to do this every few hours. Luckily this morning, the balcony is free from poo and pee 😄

Did the vet tell you Golden Boy is purebred or a mutt?

You may wish to conduct a DNA test on him to predict his weight, potential health issues, his ancestry, behavioural traits. Some GRs are prone to hip / elbow dysplasia, cancer, seizures and eye problems as they age. Also, if you don't groom regularly and leave the poor thing at your unsheltered patio, it may develop dermalogical problems. You may need to extend an MCST-approved trellis or awning to shield him from the elements.

I personally would commit to a lost dog financially and emotionally for another 6-7 years only if I'm assured of its genetic makeup. I suspect some breeders sell mutts on Gumtree, Carousell.

                        https://easydna.sg/animal-dna-tests/

I think kibbles from regular supermarkets won't be nutritious enough. It's like feeding humans with Gerber stars and energy bars. Better get quality kibbles from Pet Lovers Centre or feed him some canned meat. It's a large dog, so you need to spend more money to buy its food.

With his existing joint problems (he can't go for long walks), you must be prepared to fork out some money for medical treatments/consultations in the long run. Deworming is on quarterly basis. Not sure how he is going to lose weight unless you provide him with a customised diet.

Rehoming GRs may take a while as it is not a HDB-approved dog.
