I agree with slmkhoo. Do move him gradually to dry dog food. It's easier to manage, just get trusted brands tt hv nutrition built into the diet. The other benefits are that it'll help GR better manage oral hygiene. I made tt decision for my doggies to go on dry food to keep their oral health. Less bacteria, less illnesses. Less fresh mess everywhere too, esp when they lick elsewhere or on our faces! Yeeuuu!!

No! Don't shave him! A GR is a double-coated breed, and both layers work as insulation. Double coated breeds should never be shaved. He'll sweat by panting, not through his skin!@MKS,
:rotflmao: Yes, lots of curly fur! I booked 11am thurs appt to have him cut botak! Mum and sis said he will get heat stroke and die at my balcony very soon with such thick fur. :scared:
@MP,
Yesterday I gave him sweet potato porridge and he refused to eat.
Then I gave him canned meat w kibbles. Carrot must chop finely. Gave him some xiao bai cai too.
Lee_yl, he is such a beautiful dog. I know your reservations, but honesty speaking, you would be hard pressed to find a better first dog than a gentle senior golden retriever. And he looks like he loves being with your family! -

Janet, I am impressed you have so many pets.
my father was bonkers then. after he got fed up with his weekends burnt changing water, he sold those arowana and goldfish away. the arowana was crazy! it would hit its head against the fish tank...before it killed itself, mum told him to sell it. in the end we just kept one dog. -
Lee_yl, GR is so handsome and looks so happy! His fur is so curly.....pls don't shave the handsome boy.

The GR boy looks so different; happier and healthier. -
the more you ladies praise golden boy, the harder it is for yl to make a decision.

how to reject that GR look? I am all softie towards doggie. -
Alamak... That’s why lah, to give the best care for this dog is really no joke, stress! Like food wise, a GR owner staying nearby told me no grain, so she bought those expensive kibbles (hers $35/pack vs supermarket $7/pack) and restrict canned meat to twice a month only. Hers is 11yo, looks fit at 29kg and her GR is always wearing socks when out walking. She gives her dog a monthly injection ($60 per shot) to ease doggie’s hip problem.
An uncle asked me for what I keep such an old dog, stray dog later bring don’t know what diseases to my kids. :scared: And after I read Zeit’s “quarterly deworming” post, really freak me out! :scared:
Actually, Golden Boy is not just obese (7yo at 40kg), his set of teeth is also not in good condition.
TBH, I have heard DH mentioned twice before, that if not for me, on that night, he would have pretended not to see the dog crossing the road and headed straight home. Last night I told DH, now I think he makes sense.

Because you are kind.
I am sure your family's regard for you has gone up several notches. Your sympathy for that lost dog was greater than your fear of large dogs.
\"Best\" is subjective. I am sure the doggie doesn't think - can this family give me the \"best brand of food\", just like you didn't need to prove whether or not it is purebred. Pets, like humans, just want affection and security. You can give a neglected pet the best food and vet but that is not really a happy quality life, right?
The vet already said no diseases, so you don't have to worry about that. Just tell your girls that you will have a family discussion end of the month to decide what to do. For now, just take it one day at a time. I think by end of the month, you would have decided one way or another. -
