Congrats! may I know what's the minimum requirement for Music? tks
When we attended the open house, we were told there is no minimum grade the child needs to obtain to qualify. In fact, even if the child has no formal music training, but display good musicality, he/she stands a good chance. So if the child has picked up an instrument or singing through his/her school's CCA or is learning an instrument without grading, he/she still qualifies to apply and acceptance is base on their assessment during the auditions. The director of music further elaborated that, even if a child holds a grade 8 or diploma but does not display good musicality, he/she may not be selected. Besides musicality, they also assess each child's learning attitude during the TA e.g. during the practical auditions, the teachers will point out areas that should be done in a certain way, they want to see if the child is listening and is willing to try and make the changes. Then of course, like all other schools, they need you to submit their P5 final results and P6 mid year results during application together with video recording of 2 pieces (application is sometime in May). Upon selection to the Talent Academy (TA), each child will be given one month to learn a set piece given by SOTA and all 3 pieces (including the 2 pcs played on recording) will be presented during the live auditions at the TA. For more detail info, do visit the SOTA website and also look out for their open house.
One more thing, every year around the first quarter, kids can audition for their Junior Academy (JA), which is a Master class for music. Selected candidates through video selection will attend the master class and stand a chance to be invited to the TA without going through the first round of video selection in May. For the JA, you can check with your child's primary school. This year SOTA went through primary schools for candidate nominations for the JA. Again you can find out more from SOTA.
The above are from my personal experience. Hope you have a better idea to prep your child for the auditions. Do prep early.

Does any of parents who have kids in the senior years, elaborate on the schedule for students in LA.
there are lots of post on Dance / music / theatre but not much info on LA
Also somebody mentioned in an earlier post that there will be some engagement sessions before we submit the option form end of October. any idea when is that scheduled. -
We are interested for our daughter to pursue 3rd language as Mandarin while in SOTA?
Does any parent have an Idea whether this done in campus or do kids have to go to MOE campus?
Thanks in advance -
Congrats to all!
For LA, the hours are similar to kids taking other art forms but they do not have to stay back as late as the dancers/musicians.
They will learn various writing techniques each term during their art from lessons.
The briefing session will likely be in Oct, during one of the marking days. -
