      Angelique:
My maids always ate what we eat and they were able to eat rice from morning, lunch, dinner. 25kg rice would last about 3 weeks

When we didn’t have Maid we only used 5kg in 1 month.

I’m hoping with food allowance she will learn to be careful and not waste to food and budget since she can keep her change or be short of

Please kindly share with me what you are doing for maids food.

      THANK YOU. :rahrah:
How many maids do you have? 25kg in 3 weeks means about 32kg in a month. Less the 5kg your family ate, means your maid ate 27kg per month? That’s about 1kg a day?!?!

There are 2 adults and 1 baby who doesn’t eat rice yet. We only eat 1 dinner at home.

Due to health issues, I had 2 maids for a while and that 25kg rice was then.
Now I have just 1 Maid but rice consumption has not gone down much…

Is the remaining maid an experienced older helper or a younger one? Hv u told her to reduce the ant for cooking each time? Cld she be measuring up same Amy for cooking & has been throwing away (yikes!) the excess? Just my wild guess.

I used to hv a frd whose family had cancer & very conscious not to keep leftovers. She used to tell her maid to cook just enuf & not hv leftovers. I discovered when the maid was transferred to ano frd’s family & she was caught throwing food away. Maid explained to new eyer she was taught not to keep leftovers & my frd explained her rationale but said she didn’t realized maid has been cooking extras as she thot she’ll know how to gauge to cook ‘just enuf’ everyday for the family.

Hope this helps a step closer to yr detective work to identify the mystery of ‘missing bags of rice’. Maybe other mum’s hv other possibilities?

I think Esteema’s assumption is quite sound. The other assumption I thought of is if your helper had been cooking rice to share with the other helper?

I suggest that you check your fridge frequently and also be around when she is cooking just to see how much of everything she is cooking. I know that many helpers consume more rice (which is their staple food) than us, 20+kg for herself is quite a lot. When you are around, then you are able to correct her mistakes and she will be able to understand you better.

Some helpers who arrived in Spore seeing plentiful, will eat as much to ‘compensate’ fr their deprived childhood? Good to monitor & correct her immediately for abt 2-4 weeks’ observation. Correct everything u see as wasteful. You might like to show her how much rice (in rice cup) to cook for one person & then how much to measure out for 3 pax in the evening? If not possible, then better start advising her the consequences of overeating. 25kg a mth is hefty lot. Hopefully, she’s not selling off to gunang kuni or feeding the stray cats. But I’m aware many households hv no luxury of hanging ard home to watch maid.

Hi, thank you for your insight.
I never even thought 2 previous maids were sharing ..
2 maids dinner consisted of 1kg of roast pork belly and vegetable with rice.
                  Lunch they cook something?
Grocery bills were ridiculous and upon check few receipts I saw pattern of vegetables and seafood which my husband and I never saw.

With Current helper, I do all grocery but I don’t check the fridge..

I think I better start doing a regular stock check... maids bedroom has a door to an exit to outside so can easily go in and out without anyone knowing.

My condo security and cleaners use to leave my Fillipina Maid presents...

Wow! That is alr a clear signal that yr Pino maid may be cooking or sharing food with the cleaners & security guards.

Happened to my frd who had a back door near kitchen & she didn’t realize till one morning her son went crying to her bedroom asking for milk. She cldnt find her maid but the backdoor at kitchen was left half opened with a chair against it. She shut it. Before long, her front door bell rang & upon questioned, maid said some clothes dropped & she went to collect. Problem is her lie showed coz she returned empty-handed & my frd said she’s on level 12. She doubt maid can’t see anything below.

After she sent her home, one security kept asking g abt her maid. Then her neigbour told her she’s been seen making out with the security guard at basement car park of their condo.

I’ve learnt never to fully leave maid on their own & note key areas to check on their regularly. Of course, to start a new maid off must hand-hold with household rules & practices firmly. Not that we wanna live on constant tetters but do rmbr maid is a grown up & hv come fr a diff culture. Spore is a ‘flower world’ to them - a lot of temptations. Tho she’s not yr child, to hv good start, u still hv to train her to your own home practices & always be firm. Initially, I do check what they carry out for off-days & when they return.

The other thing is I never give them notice when I suspect sth amidst or part unhappily. I need to protect my family & kids. Once, I discovered my Pino maid took my DH’s Ferragamo necktie which was my bday gift to him. She had the audacity to say I gave her the item. Amongst others were brief! Most Pinos hv problems of deceit. Not all, but enuf to deter me fr selecting them.

When I do start a new helper, I’ll orientate her to my h’hold practices & rules. Mktg & supermktg need to account with receipts, written records & dated on a Booklet. After sufficient time, she can go auto. You’ll then hv a basis to gauge if there is marked changes & asks for accountability.
