Would you encourage your child to do social work?

dd had an amazing and memorable experience when doing social work at Metta Home. Its her first time and quite a start for her ! A few of her friends were frighten but after some help from the social workers and the seniors who had some experiences, they were enjoying the work. She shared with us her feeling and the poeples she met there, its quite sad ā¦ Nevertheless, she is hoping to go again when there is opportunity and time.

Hi, is good to see that there are many ppl like you who care for the low income family.
Personally I am a youth volunteer at my CC, for my past experience I been doing volunteering work for the elderly around my CC estate monthly. I did organise some outing before, for the low income family from AWWA.
Currently MCYS have CDAC and CFAC which is running such program, you may wish to collaborate with them.
CDAC Tuition Programmes
Aims to organise quality and affordable tuition classes for students from low-income families who are not performing well in school.

Centre-based Financial Assistance Scheme for Child Care (CFAC)
CFAC helps low-income families to pay for their children's child care fees. This is to support mothers who go out to work, while ensuring the children's developmental needs are met. CFAC provides a child care fee subsidy every month. -

Our Family Service Centre runs this academic support (tution) programme for the children at our student care centres for low-income families who are not able to otherwise engage a personal tutor. This is to assist the parents who might not be able to supervise or coach their children in their learning.
We have 3 student care centres running this programme, the Sengkang branch is the one where we still need more volunteers. This programme runs for 1 and a half hours every saturday and volunteers will be needed to commit for a minimum of 3 months.
What can you benefit from this?
An enriching experience in working with children from less fortunate backgrounds. If you're a parent yourself, it will also be a good opportunity to learn to appreciate your own children better, to look for the positives, and there will be opportunities to attend training workshops as well.

Hi please count me in. I have been trying to get some voluntary work for the family, however, almost all of the work require 15 or above. Hence, my children 12 and 10 cannot participate.

I participated volunteer orientation session last night..., of cause with my kids too :love:
I can sign up for volunterr activities from now onwards....
Just found this easier as can choose when and where you are able to serve without committing to a long-term arrangement.
