Hi all
My DS got a CO for SST. Would appreciate if anyone can provide further information and feedback for us to make an informed decision at end Oct when we have to submit the form.
1. Heard that teachers cover the syllabus very very fast and students really have to be very independent, or require tuition outside, otherwise may have difficulty coping. Is that true?
2. Read some earlier pages in this forum that there might be a problem where teachers keep changing. Is that the norm? Are their teachers supplied by MOE or they have to employ independently, or a mix? If mix, what would be the percentage of manpower supported by MOE?
3. What is the class size per class? Heard it’s around 20+? Is that all the way til Sec 4?
4. Heard of a number of ex-students getting into computer/gaming addiction, more risk because of the pervasive use of IT devices in the curriculum. How does the school help to keep this in control?
5. I can’t seem to find info on their O-level results for the past years (except news on SST’s first batch of graduates). Anyone has these info, esp the most recent results?
So sorry for the many questions. I’m still quite an "old-school" person, so I’m apprehension about such "future schools", but my son seems keen in taking up the offer, or to progress up in his current school (he has potential to score 240+ or more for PSLE to remain in Cat High, but then, we never know). -
Hi i saw your question and was hoping that current SST students or parents whose kids are in SST could help answer. These r good questions, raise them up at "A day@SST" 27 oct?

Hello to all parents/concerned students!Hi all

So sorry for the many questions. I'm still quite an \"old-school\" person, so I'm apprehension about such \"future schools\", but my son seems keen in taking up the offer, or to progress up in his current school (he has potential to score 240+ or more for PSLE to remain in Cat High, but then, we never know).
I am a current Secondary 3 student from the School of Science and Technology.
First off, congrats on the confirmed order and the end of PSLE [It ended right today?]! It must have been a very mentally straining few months for the Primary Six students, so enjoy your holidays! I hope to see you/your children in school next year!
I’ll start off with the basics! Our classes are composed of about 25 students per class in Lower Secondary [1 & 2], with about 3 – 5 girls per class. While in Secondary 3/4 classes vary based on their subject combination. This is to reduce the class size such that each student’s learning is tailored to fit their style. But still, the teacher is always there to guide while it is still the student’s responsibility to take charge of their learning.
Besides that, most of our teachers are Ex-MOE/MOE Contract/MOE Certified educators. While some are teachers from top countries in education with varying degrees. [e.g. UK] Our teachers are also Google/Apple Certified Educators so don’t worry about the switching of teachers or their certifications [its good anyway] as most of them have fantastic track records! With results ranging from B3s to A1s and Batch1/2 students who are in Oxbridge and Ivy-League Schools.
Our teachers go through the topics quickly, but still slow enough such that no students lag behind. Homework and Assignments are issued on schedules that have been feedbacked on by previous years, so don’t worry about endless mountains of homework, because it has been planned so that there is no overlap between assignments. Therefore, our fantastic O-Level admission results! [I can only remember the rough results for the past three years sorry!]
- Polytechnic Eligibility: 100%
- JC Eligibility: 85% - 92%
- Average Score: 5 - 6.5
Finally, I understand your concern about the addiction issue. But don’t worry, our school is very stringent on the use of Learning Devices [LD] and most of the time, pen and paper is still our best friend. Our teachers keep a close on eye on their students during lessons with the LDs involved since we don’t want them to be distracted, do we? Besides, if you suspect your child is gaming or is addicted to the LD, you can always email their Form Teacher and have an LD check conducted by the school or just confiscate it.
So that’s all for today folks! I hope to see you/your child at A Day @ SST or maybe next year in school! If you have any more questions, drop a question tagging me yeah?
Regards,

Hi YJGoatee,
Appreciate your feedback on SST posted recently. My son also has an offer from SST and I am in a quandary whether to wait for PSLE or take the SST offer. On paper, the SST curricula does look interesting but I wonder how the school compares to the likes of RI and SJI ( IB programme).
I hear that SST only teaches 5 subjects in y1-2 ( other schools teach 8 subjects). You only are taught 8 subjects Y3 onwards. If that is the case, isn't it very hard for the child to catch up and study for O levels?
Do children who go there have to be Sci or technologically inclined to thrive? My son doesn't show any strong inclination in either fields.
How is the school spirit in SST? When I went there, I don't feel like the kids there have strong school spirit vs those in RI and SJI ( where I felt that the kids were truly proud of their schools).
Does SST accept kids post PSLE results at all?
Appreciate your help in the above questions. Thanks again!

Received A Day@SST email and we will be attending Session 1 and accepting the CO. Any student staying in Bedok/East Cost who may want to explore car pooling next year?
-
We received the email too, ours is the 2nd session 11.30am. Likely highly we will take up the CO too, even though my son has affiliation to a boy school. We stayed in the West .

Same. 2nd session 1130am. Taking up CO. We are staying West

Heard from my colleague her friend’s daughter now in sec1 and she cried and stress over her maths. They are learning sec3 maths in sec1. The girl was quite good in maths but still cannot cope. The father want to pull her out of SST if she fail year end.

For P6s to move on to S1s is an adaptation phase. New environment, double the subjects they are taking, new friends. So is common that some kids underperform. Family support and school support definitely will helps kids to overcome. Stay positive!
