I have a sweet tooth and moon cakes are my weakness! Am refraining this year because trying to cut down on sugar and carbs. No one else in the family eats them anyway.

ME time in the office today. DH took leave to bring DS out for their outdoor bonding activities during these school holidays :boogie:

I am also intending to eat less this year, to cut down on the sugar etc. But I won't forgo them entirely. My strategy is to wait a while more and only buy a few. I'll probably get some next week - daughters are asking for them!

I think traditional mooncakes lacks the oomphs these days…probably coz they no longer use pork lard anymore

I never bought any mooncakes all these years. But will end up with a few boxes every year. And MIL will still buy those little piggies for kiddos.

              yes...agree.
pig lard brings out the taste. without it, it's just missing that oomph like you mention.
occasionally when I steam fish, I just add a little pork lard and the kids will not object when I get them to eat more.

              hi FLD,
son didn't ask for crispy yam this year, but thanks for letting me know.

I went the economy way…instead of buying east ocean yam moon cake, I bought 1A yam puff.

satisfied my crispy yam craving. the best part - it’s only $1.20.

At Taka mooncake fair now. Wanted to try pan pacific hotel mooncakes but no booth there. May end up buying peninsula custard mooncake again....

Don’t know why, I seem to have impression that Peony Jade increase prices every year??
FLD, bo jio? I was at Taka mooncake fair yesterday. 😂
Mandarin Oriental’s sea salt caramel with taro is tasty. For their white lotus one is one of the less sweet-tasting mooncakes among the rest. Packaging is very pretty. But I didn’t buy it cos it is just toooo exp. $87 for 4pcs (assorted favours)

😂 Thought you busy with psle mah. I left empty handed in the end, because I still prefer the pan pac mooncake box more leh. 😆 I kind of tasted a lot of 单黃at a lot of booths, no difference to me, except that intercon one taste better to me. So mooncake box became the deciding factor lor, as the previous box is being used as a stationery box for highlighters for dd now.
