That’s very true that even within 1KM you might not guarantee to have a place. We are thinking our way to find our kids a better school thus we are open to any suggestions. I want my hubby to go to church as he is Christian but he not really keen, also no interest to join volunteer. Besides move house, can’t think about any other ways really
Alternatively, you can change your mindset and question how you should define the word “better”.
Some people look for missionary schools that are not the most popular but almost guaranteed < 1km. There are quite a number of them out there (although most of them tend to be single gender). Others look for reputable schools that are either overlooked or in older estates with fewer applicants. Some examples of such schools close to Seletar Hills: Teck Gee in Ang Mo Kio, Kuo Chuan Presbyterian in Bishan, Pei Chun & Kheng Cheng in Toa Payoh, etc. -
In fact , I am looking into the schools purely based on their ranking, for my eldest we didn’t really put in any effort to research on the schools etc and we are kind of regret now. So for the younger ones we would do more what we could , at least we tried and moving isn’t an issue for us, so just try to find out what’s best way or short cut to get into the one we like.

You can’t look into schools “purely based on their rankings” because no such said ranking exists.
What you can rank is basically a school’s popularity, which is based on a number of factors - strength of the alumni, clan / religious groups, PV / GRL and moving forward, even MK may play a part.
There’s no short cut to get in, apart from being a former student or member of the school (Phase 2A). For the rest, moving house won’t guarantee if you are only interested in the popular schools. You will either have to adopt a religion or volunteer your time. Everything else, its all down to God / fate / luck. -
Should I ask my hubby join a church ? Lol. Anyway, I was looking at below artical which make sense to me to use as reference.

Awards are not always a good indicator of how “good” / popular the school is. Certainly, this statement “without a doubt, these are the crème de la crème of primary schools in Singapore” is highly arguable (most of them are, but not all of them).
If you have read the article, you should notice a few schools that https://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/posting.php?mode=quote&f=5&p=1875753#pr1875697 (about being overlooked or based in older estates)

As I mentioned before we have no idea which are the “good schools “ as my hubby and myself both never attend pri school in school. Our eldest was in a newly started up school in Sengkang bode which we found it wasn’t good, She changed at least 6-7 form teachers in total, especially the first 3 years had 5 different ones, the form teacher will never be contactable, the only time when she msg in the parents WhatsApp group was the time she gave birth by posting her newborn’s pic. And other things due to poor management direction so and so on. The ranking of that school was crap too, we regret that we didn’t change our daughter. Of course, we can’t fully rely on the school for our kid’s study but at least we could try our best to get them a better start!

I have a SG50 boy and is looking around for primary school in Bukit Batok. Any good schools to recommend?
-
I have a SG50 girl and looking around primary school in the East!
-
Be it East or West, if you are unable / not going to apply in the earlier phase, and only entering at Phase 2C, you should start looking at schools < 1km. SG50 should be another bumper crop of children.

Peiliang:
Den it's logical... Because without the alumni status, you still have to go through to 2B or 2C once anyway. It's more of a happy headache to have really as competition should be less fierce for SAP school for SG50 babies, as previous year was horse year and 2015 was goat year, a not so auspicious horoscope. I got a Jan baby so he's a horse in sheep clothing. Haha.
This is my very first post to Kiasu Parents. My son is Feb 2015, same as you Peiliang. I've also got twins born in 2017 (boy and girl).
Boy born 2015
Boy born 2017
Girl born 2017
I think I have a huge challenge ahead of me. Want a top school which realistically means I need to be within 1 km. I can move there soon no prob, and wait out the 30 months requirement. However, that will then mean I can't move to another place to qualify for the within 1 km for my daughter (not enough time as her registration would be 24 months later). So if I'm lucky enough to get boy 1 in, then boy 2 will automatically get in later great for him, but daughter is left hanging in the wind poor girl.
So while I have my wish list for boys schools and wish list for girls schools, is my best option to move to the best CO-ED school as its logistically the only way to get them all in? Then go all out qualifying for 2B (just once, hopefully in, and then all 3 will be in).
Any thoughts or suggestions? Is my logic correct?
Thanks.
