my 1 cent opinion, I feel DSA academics to IP sch can do away , if the child is academically inclined , go via plain vanilla psle scores ... no need to create so many academics portfolio -high class expensive enrichment center benefit the most in making$$$ in tutoring .
Let DSA IP to remain for sports n performing arts talents, meeting minimum expectations ( current of 190 - express stream , maybe too low - at least 225 (or ?) - an avg academic incline student grade at least , so that the child will not suffer if he/she ever got into IP schs - the reality of not able to catch up in studies is cruel to a growing teen who is having hormones war deep inside the body)
They have now removed the general academic DSA entry which I think is a good move. They have kept the subject specific ones though which I agree with. I have selfish motives but my son is a prime example - he's is very good at Science and that's where his interest lies. However, he is terrible at Chinese. He would never be able to get into a \"top\" school with his PSLE result because his Chinese will pull his mark down substantially. He just passed for SA1. Without DSA, he may miss the chance to go for a school with a programme targetted at children like him. We can't expect children to be good at everything - and the reality is that some of the most talented are quite one dimensional but that shouldn't be a handicap in my view. -

I feel the same too. Remove all DSA domains related to academic and limit strictly to sports only. Even DSA by leadership also voice down to results.
Removing DSA itself will reduce the stress, more so than removing P5 SA1. Main reason why students feel the stress from P5 SA1 is because many are hoping to use the good results so that they get a chance to DSA. All, except those students who really excel in sports, should enter by tscore. -

If u have ever read this book before, u probably know what I mean when I say my kid is almost exactly like the typical boy characterized in that book. So different from a daughter who can study well

I have a younger \"Wild child\", brings greatest joys and deepest woes (exaggeration :rotflmao: ) Hopefully I end up with most of my sanity intact at end of 2019 :xedfingers:

I was looking at the timetable for results release dates and S1 posting and secondary school reporting dates below.

May I check, am I correct that it is best not to travel between these dates:
22 Nov to 2 Dec
19 to 22 Dec
Also, buying of books / uniforms for Sec 1 will be on Secondary school reporting date usually?
Sorry for the anti-climax, but I need to plan my holidays first before I feel motivated to ‘retake’ PSLE in 2019 with dd.

It'll be advisable for parents to hv their P6 kids around during the release of PSLE results. Principals usually will brief parents on selection of schools, announce the top 10% cohort, MOE's position wrt Appeals, etc. So, I personally feel this one shld not miss.
You need to exercise your S1 Options after analyzing yr child's T-Score (reflected at the left bottom of PSLE Certificate, against personal preference or choice of schools (can choose up to 6 ranked in order of choice. Those who hv been offered CO will not participate in this S1 Posting phase. Not sure those with WL though. Maybe other parents can advise?
For us, we were not ard on date of reporting to sch in late Dec. my knowledge is tt some school bookshops alr pre-packed Sec 1 school textbooks in end Nov. If u know which sch u can check their website & order online or buy fr sec sch on other dates coz sec sch report date are very crowded in sch. DC only reported to sec in January. Best also to buy sch uniform as early as u've been posted to sch coz supplier may run out. Though we bought 2 sets of uniform, we found ourselves waiting ano 2 mths before we got extra sets as stockbgets replenished quite long after.
We planned a holiday leaving day after PSLE & took ano short one after submitting our language choices, as we donnit need to participate in S1 Posting due to DSA.

Hi, I would not say this year science is easy. MCQ is easy but there are 1-2 questions that are not so direct. As for OE, although DD would not conclude it is difficult, it is neither easy as there are a few more challenging questions too. Perhaps those who concluded science is easy are from GEP. When your kids start to do the PSLE booklet, you will realise science is one subject where the OE questions are different every year so one has to be really very strong in all science concept and answering skills. Do prepare early for science.parents in 2018 PSLE thread said their Maths & Science are easy papers, means our 2019 batch, going to be easy too ? What you all think ?

either same as 2018, also going to be easy as well, since MOE want to de-emphasize academic stress, like removing (P1, P2 exam / P3, P5 SA1)
OR
SEAB reserve the setting of challenging questions, for our piggies ?
Yesterday HCL paper was easy, even for the second compre.
