i decided to sign my girl at odyssey 4th ave. this is her 2nd week of school and though she is still adjusting, I am very pleased with how things are. The teachers are very comforting and reassuring to a crying child. The centre mamager even called me personally on the 3rd day just to let me know how she is doing when I had to run some errands (They actually \"allow\" us to hang around for 3 days but from 2nd day they initiated to take over my girl so I could see hoiw they cope and manage) I dont know about cirriculum on how well they prepare them for primary education cos my girl is only in the tots program (oh they even made a welcome banner on the door for her) We actually already have a slot in SJCK next yr for PN, I'm wondering if I should carry on in Odyssey or go SJCK. Any mummies with kids in their kindy program can comment ?
Dear dardar63,
I'm looking at sending my gal in mid June. Are you still happy with them? Heard that they only teach 1 hr in the morning and 1 hr in the afternoon. the rest are for eating cleaning and sleeping. Is that true? Or is this for playgroup only?
did your child show any progress after these 3-4 weeks there?
thx so much. Could pm me. -
Any parents have children in this centre? Read that there are high turnover and children not prograssing well to Primary school. Could anyone wiht info share something?
Is it to do with the main management of Odyssey or issues are peculiar to this center only? I wonder if this will affect the rest of the centers. M considering to send my gal to 4th avenue.
pls pm me if sensitive.
thx.
worried… -
odyssey at 4th avenue is one of the preschools I’m considering for my dd. Can anyone share the school fees? Are they in the same range as CH/ Pat’s schoolhouse, or even more prohibitive? TIA!

we're in our 4th week now. My dd is VERY attached to me as I'm a SAHM so she's with me 24X7. The 1st 2 weeks were tough as she would be crying quite abit but by 3rd week, she only cries when I drop her off and then after the initial seperation, she's fine. I'm very happy with her progress so far.
They start off at 9am with circle time, sing songs.. then they have story time, sometimes in english and sometimes in chinese. At any one time there are always 3 teachers there, 2 english and 1 chinese. Then they have time table of either outdoor play, water play, arts, etc.. at 11am they would then have lunch, and 11.30 the teachers would clean up the kids.. the half day ones get changed of diapers and clothes and the full day ones get a shower. Then 12pm, it's when the parents start coming to pick up the kids and then the full day kids go to sleep. I'm not sure about the afternoon cos my dd is on half day.
I'm generally very happy with the progress, whenever I ask dd if she wants to go sch she will alway say yes. She can name her classmates in school, the teachers.. and she's eating very well according to the teacher. (something which is very hard to accomplish at home).
There are 2 new kids whom came last week and they dont care at drop off as compared to my dd. (one came from infant care so she's used to be dropped off, and another one was prev taken care of by the maid so also used to parents going to work). I like that the teachers are all very loving and full of hugs and kisses to the kids. Every week there is a 2 page ppt report with pics on what is done in class sent to the parents.
They teach letterland phonics, not recognizing of alphabets but only the phonics.
I've PM you my email, if you need more info
omgmum - it's higher than CH/Pats. Will PM you -
Just visited the school. Rupal, the principal, was friendly and accomodating. Am really impressed with the spanking new facilities.
The teachers were dressed quite professionally, and they seem to be really qualified. Was told that there are 2 EL teachers-- one with a degree in early childhood ed and the other with at least a diploma-- and 1 Chinese teacher to a class.
Didn’t see much action though cos they don’t seem to have a lot of kiddos in the pm or full day sessions. -
Dear Parents,
Would anyone has experience wiht the above preschool?
How are their curriculum? Does it prepare children well for pri 1? Are their teachers committed and stay long with the organisation?
Anyone have a copy of their rought curriculum? could you pm me? Or the food they eat etc.

yes rupal is very nice. I love that she comes out of the office almost every morning when we arrive to greet my girl and give her a hug. it's really very nice that it seems almost all the teachers know the kids by their names even though they do not teach that class.
From my understanding usually not much activities in the afternoons cos the kids nap and then it's more free play .. nothing really structured. I may be wrong cos my girl is on half day only. But I could ask them what exactly they do in the afternoons.. hahaha -
