Maris Stella Teachers are very dedicated and their supplementary worksheets are well crafted. If your Son is able to focus in class and listen to the Teachers, he should be able to do well without the help from tutors.
Totally agree with you. Putting my 2 sons in Maris Stella is one of the best decision I have made. Both my sons were from Maris Stella (Primary) and now in Maris Stella (Secondary). They have very kind and dedicated teachers and principal plus a supportive group of parents in the parent support group. Each student regardless of their academic performance is given equal opportunities and treated the same. -

I would disagree slightly with the above comments. While there are a large number of very good & dedicated teachers, my two boys (now P5 & P2) have also had their fair share of ineffective ones. They do give a lot of asssistance to the weaker students but they still fall into the trap of many of the opportunities to participate in special activities and trips being given to those who perform better academically. This is not unique to Maris Stella.snowcat:

I also don't believe that you can perform at a high level for PSLE just based on the work given by the school. I have an elder daughter who is now in Sec 2 so, based on my experience, they do still need to supplement with extra work outside of school.
I don't want to be negative but the average PSLE score for the past two years has been below the affiliated cut-off point for the secondary school. It is a great school in terms of the overall environment and most of the teachers but it still has its shortcomings. -
So meaning we can’t just rely on the teachers alone. Tuition is still a must have…
