Recently I was reading this book by Stephen Covey. It is a posthumous work published by his children after they found his manuscript.

This part made me freeze: “What legacy do you want to leave in your personal & professional life? What do you want your family & friends to say about you 10 years from now?”

Ten years from now, my son will be 18 years old & doing NS liao. It is very sobering to me, thinking what sort of man would he have grown into, under my influence as a parent?

Ten years from now, I will be 50 years old but probably still nowhere in my career, which I intentionally put on the back burner so that I can focus on child rearing...which is ok with me, but now I think I should find more hobbies for some personal fulfillment. Kid will leave the nest. I cannot cling on forever. Seeing my mum still serving my brother (and his wife!)...not a good life.

I received a call for a check up say doc advised one year chk up for me in this case, after last year’s chk up. It makes me think more than usual, what are the things I would like to have it done…apart from more sayang, preparing my kids for their future, I still have that something left behind…I just hope I could get it started…I been nursing my internal self for quite a long time…

Its sobering. I would say that would lead to the next question 10 years from now... \"if only I have done this or that...\". While it is true that setting future goals is a good step forward, we must also ask ourselves what happens when we reflect on the things we should have done?

... do you feel any difference, say being more forgetful (like after our childbirth) or maybe part of the memory faded or otherwise?

My goodness, MrsKiasu. You must be an oracle. Memory is a big problem for me. I forget names very easily, but remember events when reminded. Kind of like the old days, but very much scarier since I forget every easily. Sigh. Keep pick pockets away from me.

even my dd2 been telling me she could not remember alot of things..I hope this is not a sickness 😓 I could only tell her it only happens when we dont utilise it alot..everyday make it a point to remember abit and it will get better..for me, quite difficult, delete all schedules on my hp, then everyday would be a free day to me.

At we grow old, check-up, medical apt etc will start taking up more of our time.

agree star, reading so many news around..the thought of the the kind of thing that can just come unannounced is getting scarier. I m currently getting test done on my stomach that prone to gas after food..try to be proactive whenever possible la..

zac's mum, you're still young, at least ano 40 years to accomplish more of your wishlist.

Attended a peer's father's funeral recently where all his children & grandkids testify to the way he's so considerate to provide & give to his family but wld not hv anything to splurge on himself. He wldnt go to restaurant for meals & hardly update his wardrobe but this humble unassuming man did so well to be promoted within his auditing firm to partnership at a relatively young age. The only 'treat' he gave himself was his last days at hospital, he asked for a cigar. I rmbrd during our college days, he was a smoker but quitted coz he was concern to be available for his family. His legacy was his loving, caring & considerate nature.

For me, it's impt to build relationships. I wld rather hv a happy, healthy family than to pursue the glories the world entice. I gave up my career at my peak & just saw my kids needed me more & excuse to myself to quit coz I'm overshadowing DH with my big title & higher package. I'm happy & content to hv a great partner who co-parent my kids. Without DH, it wld be off-balance parenthood for me.

I'm happy cooking, baking & delighting all my kids' frds, their parents became my new found frds, my elderlies and those I visit annually in Mynmar. DH says we can't take wealth along when we go, so we exercise our stewardship where we see needs are together with our kids. Hope they know where we place our hearts. I'm happy to see lives given an uplift if I can. What is sweating out for a good cause? It returns me with contentment & im at peace with myself & others. That's how I want to leave....

ChiefKiasu, do you have history of high blood pressure prior to having stroke? Why do you say you are prepared in having a stroke? How do you know you are having one soon?
