I received a call for a check up say doc advised one year chk up for me in this case, after last year's chk up. It makes me think more than usual, what are the things I would like to have it done..apart from more sayang, preparing my kids for their future, I still have that something left behind..I just hope I could get it started..I been nursing my internal self for quite a long time..

At we grow old, check-up, medical apt etc will start taking up more of our time.

agree star, reading so many news around..the thought of the the kind of thing that can just come unannounced is getting scarier. I m currently getting test done on my stomach that prone to gas after food..try to be proactive whenever possible la..

        zac's mum:

This part made me freeze: “What legacy do you want to leave in your personal & professional life? What do you want your family & friends to say about you 10 years from now?”
        ...
Ten years from now, I will be 50 years old but probably still nowhere in my career, which I intentionally put on the back burner so that I can focus on child rearing...which is ok with me, but now I think I should find more hobbies for some personal fulfillment...
zac's mum, you're still young, at least ano 40 years to accomplish more of your wishlist.

Attended a peer's father's funeral recently where all his children & grandkids testify to the way he's so considerate to provide & give to his family but wld not hv anything to splurge on himself. He wldnt go to restaurant for meals & hardly update his wardrobe but this humble unassuming man did so well to be promoted within his auditing firm to partnership at a relatively young age. The only 'treat' he gave himself was his last days at hospital, he asked for a cigar. I rmbrd during our college days, he was a smoker but quitted coz he was concern to be available for his family. His legacy was his loving, caring & considerate nature.

For me, it's impt to build relationships. I wld rather hv a happy, healthy family than to pursue the glories the world entice. I gave up my career at my peak & just saw my kids needed me more & excuse to myself to quit coz I'm overshadowing DH with my big title & higher package. I'm happy & content to hv a great partner who co-parent my kids. Without DH, it wld be off-balance parenthood for me.

I'm happy cooking, baking & delighting all my kids' frds, their parents became my new found frds, my elderlies and those I visit annually in Mynmar. DH says we can't take wealth along when we go, so we exercise our stewardship where we see needs are together with our kids. Hope they know where we place our hearts. I'm happy to see lives given an uplift if I can. What is sweating out for a good cause? It returns me with contentment & im at peace with myself & others. That's how I want to leave....

ChiefKiasu, do you have history of high blood pressure prior to having stroke? Why do you say you are prepared in having a stroke? How do you know you are having one soon?

Yes. I had a splitting headache sometime in Dec last year when I had to go to Changi hospital where they made the diagnosis that it was Vertigo and made me go back for treatment for it since. They finally referred me to the neurologist sometime in March who sent me for a scan in July! My stroke happened a few days before the scan. It happened in exactly the same manner as my headache but was much worst and I felt my myself losing control of my limbs. Fortunately my wife brought me to Tan Tock Seng where apparently the doctors operated on me. I've little recollection of the episode other that snippets here and there. Woke up feeling high in the ICU. Lol. The doctors were not sure if I could recover intact from my episode but thank God I managed to. Will continue to fight!
This kinda horror story is the scariest for people at our age!
              Take care, bro!

I have been organising the paper documents and my hobby stuff at home as well as keeping a lean kitchen. Want to minimise burden on others if I go into serious ‘downtime’ suddenly.

                    You're right, Jen.

I think this way too. I prefer to keep everything tidy & updated but not the men in my house. So, I just console myself I've a lifetime job of checking if they like their cameras be stowed away, bind all gadget wires, tidy/arrange all shoes, spec cleaning cloth .... while loads.

Then those bank statements, govt letters, kids circulars, etc. Then there are those insurance policies of all family members & in-laws'. Now it dawn on me, maybe I shld set up a corner for the men only with shelves specially for their gadgets in the study, just as I've my baking stuff & bz in my workroom. I label all my shelves, safe & filing shelves. Will hv a look again.

More like stroke limiting blood flow & he gets dizzy as a result of blockages. Right, Chief?

hahaha we all playing guess..my guess is due to deposits, blood flow that carries oxygen affected causing headache and that is when at normal requirement of oxygen level. but when sudden higher oxygen level needed at that particular point but failed to deliver, like sudden cut off..then stroke happens??
