My experience is when you buy Billy Book case go for the single door ones. The double door, has longer shelf so tends to sag in the centre. The single door case ,even if the full shelf is loaded doesnt not seem to sag.For sofa, I understand it was Ektorp that my friend had for her place - the one that could withstand use by pp who are on the bigger side of the scale.
For bookshelf, my Billy always sag. I got one from 'As is' few years back and it looks a bit like falling apart. But I think part of the reason is that not enough nails were used (of course the fact that I love to buy books is another).
That said, I have a Linnarp bookshelf (from ikea also http://www.ikea.com/sg/en/catalog/products/30180146/) - in use about 1 year plus. it's solid wood and there is a partition in the middle. not sagging even though I pack up to 3 rows of books the usual novel size (trying to keep to 2 but it's tough). Love it so much that I'm contemplating to get another (else no space for more books).
Sorry, perhaps I should have stated my preference. I am a utilitarian and try to stretch the use as much as possible. I look for solid wood types and don't quite like mdf/particleboard stuff.
Also if you are using water to mop make sure that the water does not touch the base often . Being compressed wood it will start to bloat and lose strength.
There is also a provision to get an anti topple fixed on it. -
hee, will probably try that out in future. Unfortunately, Linnarp is no longer in production. I heard from the sales guy that this is no longer in production (since last year?) and promptly bought the last 2 they have.
Wish they will bring it back. They may have others but this model works for me. The shelf is sitting on 4 legs unlike Billy so there is some space underneath for me to mop. I have seen some other solid wood shelves, but those can't pack as much books

Anyone custom made their kitchen/wardrobe from MUDIAN? Would appreciate any feedback. Thanks.

I read from a forum that etch&bolts is able to customise sofa as well as other furniture such as tables and storages.
And i went down to their store near Aljunied a few weeks back and was surprised to find out that they provide various customisation services for sofa such as the dimensions, seating comfort, colour and material (fabric and leather) of the sofa.

Hope this helps

Suggest storage beds. I keep my luggage and winter wear there.
We are using leather sofa. -
I am torn between using storage beds (Yes, for storing luggage), and complying with fengshui recommendations that always say beds must not be storage / bunks! Headache!
As for sofa, kids doesn’t like the sofa feeling. They prefer the bedsheet feeling. So they always drag the comforter out and put it on the sofa. But a fall hazard for younger ones. -

Pls share why does fengshui say not to use beds with storage? What will happen if you do that? -

Not an expert and here's my clumsy interpretation: Fengshui is about the flow or the air and wind etc, right? About balancing of energies... So, it says always get a bed with a good, solid headboard, placed at a wall. It should have space after the leg of the bed, and ideally, on both sides of the bed. In addition, there should be clear below the bed too... for good airflow.straffan23:

I think basically, anything bulky and messy is not recommended. So storage bed means a lot of stuff (rubbish? mess?) below the bed. No good. Also no good is the bunk bed. Because the person at the bottom may feel \"trapped\" by the top bunk, and the person on top might be too close to the ceiling. How, lidat?? Purpose built a bungalow?
