I eyeball the plastic bag before lining the bin and put a little tape over a hole if I see one. I rarely have supermarket bags now as I get bags when I order online and will use those and reusable bags when I shop in person.zac's mum:
I just use 2 layers of plastic bags to line my rubbish bin. For wet waste. It’s using double the plastic no doubt, but it’s never happened that both bags will have holes in the same spot.
I line the bin with 1 plastic bag with lavender scent (mum bought from Phuket)...and another grocery bag for rubbish. it just didn't occur to me there would be holes. when I go to the supermarket on saturdays, I usually bring a cooler bag with ice packs...then ice cream, frozen stuff and eggs would all be put in the bag.
if I buy liquid detergent, I will get 2 plastic bags as the bottle is heavy. -
I hv a thick HEB grocery bag which I use for holding household cleaning detergents bou from supermkt. Usually holds 2 litres at most since I restrict myself from carrying heavy things.
I now have less shopping plastic bags at home.
Feel good to know I am making an effort to go ‘plastic bag lite’ for the environment. -
i still have plastic bags at home, but we control the number of bags used.
wet rubbish from the sink is thrown twice a day or there will be an odour but rubbish from the rooms are accumulated into one plastic bag every 3 days…usually crushed paper and tissue paper.
it’s the same practice when we were staying in the prev flat where there is a rubbish bin in every unit. -
Try to reduce, reuse and recycle. Then the dry rubbish can be reduced further.

How many pieces of paper towel provided in some public toilets do you pull out to wipe your hands?
I can use 1 piece, though my first choice will be the hand dryer.
I see most people pull 2-3 pieces. Heartache to see such wastage. -

Totally agree with you.
We need to improve further on how we are doing the 3Rs. What we had been doing in the past might not be enough. -

Try to not bin crushed paper n tissue paper in the same bin. Crushed paper can be recycled, whereas tissue paper is more likely to be general waste due to how we use them.i still have plastic bags at home, but we control the number of bags used.

For wet rubbish odour, put some baking soda in a container near the sink. Or examine what type of wet rubbish gives out odour and see if there are ways to reduce that type of wet rubbish.
In my kitchen, seafood wet rubbish gives the worse odour. I usu fold down the plastic bag after use in the afternoon, then bin after serving fruits at night. I also leave a container with baking soda in the kitchen to absorb cooking odour as well. -
Jen, you mean have a container of water with added baking soda to absorb cooking odour? Thank you!
I have make pizzas though forgotten the ingredients and steps (no fresh tomatoes so used ketchup) and slow cooking the herbal chicken soup and red rice…no more cooking for the rest of the day -
MrsKS,
a container with dry baking soda, no water inside.
