The general feel is the aggregate is a bit lower this year due to the easier paper. The COP may not drop since you may have the same number of students with scores at/above last year's COP applying but I doubt it will increase.

This year's cohort size is 730 more than last year's, plus the foreign language cut-off (top 10%) remains (?) at 252. Dunno about DSA numbers.

Make of it what you will, but why worry about 'safe' or 'not safe' when your 6th choice will still take precedence over the next person below's 1st choice?

It is perfectly safe to anyhow whack your first choice even if T-score is 8-9 points below last year's COP, so long as you have sensible latter choices as back up.

If you don't put, you have 'safely' ZERO chance, and there is practically no opportunity cost for putting.

The reason for affiliation points is so that the sponsoring parties who had invested much resources to build education for both upstream & downstream poured a lot of resources which MOE does not provide, as only std resources given to all schools. The Huay Guan directed resources for their members’, the Catholics & Protestants likewise directed resources for religious & values education. I know some of these schools were built on land these respective group purchased in early days of Spore’s nation bldg.

Every now and then, the same arguments and grievances will come up but yet, few bother to really try and understand it.

What you mention about spending resources didn’t just happen in early days, it’s an on going effort. These schools don’t get the full funding from MOE apart from a grant-in-aid (hence, government-aided). Rest of the money are raised thru other means. Can refer to MOE website for their https://www.moe.gov.sg/about/org-structure/fdd/financial-summary-of-government-aided-schools-and-independent-schools-donation-funds.
The details of the grant and what it’s being used for are covered in the Education Act, under Grant Regulations.

In http://eresources.nlb.gov.sg/history/events/c7cc9a2f-0cb2-44e8-bfe4-6220e3235c36, this is a trade off that the government had made. Most of these schools were / are well-capable of going at it alone (and which they did). Thus, a grant-in-aid was an effort to rein in all schools for a standardized and consistent education ‘product’ to promote the national agenda. In return, these schools were given some autonomy including Phase 2B consideration and affiliation bonuses.

Yes. The matter is actually very deep & more complex. But in the gist, yes. These schools hv their own members who cld hv sponsored their own.

Can I check what should the kids wear on 20th Dec, reporting to their new schools?

Their own school uniform or can they wear their own cloths?

              Thank you!

NUS High admission is only through DSA which has already closed in June this year.

If there are vacancies after the DSA-Sec Exercise, interested students must register for the Supplementary Intake Exercise (SIE) from 1 to 14 November 2018. The actual application will open on the day of release of PSLE results and close at 10 am on the third day of the release of the PSLE results.    http://www.nushigh.edu.sg/admission-n-outreach/admissions/admission-faqs
