        Hi all,

DD2 will be joining the Nanyang family next year. She is from a non-SAP primary school. Earlier, she had some reservations about joining NYGH as she was worried about being less than conversant in mandarin.

But her fears were put to ease after she attended the hour long DSA interview. DD2 told me the girls were given ample opportunity to talk and when the girls got stuck, the interviewers gently guided them through. It was only after this interview that she actually got to know the school better. The VP answered all her queries in a witty manner and she found that her fear of not being sufficiently conversant in mandarin was unfounded (as the rest of the participants were of more or less of the same standard).

DD2 is looking forward to her new school. I hope that my girl will benefit from the bicultural program offered by the school as I believe Bilinguallism will benefit my girl in years to come.

Anyone remember abt Sec 1 class allocation? Are two girls from same pri sch same t score likely be placed in same class(not Dsa pupils)

          Thanks

Used to be so dd’s time I think.
Remember something like that being addressed in ptm- rationale being hopefully making the girls feel more at ease in the new school if it happens that there are only 2 of them coming from the same Pri school (assuming both not on any special programme).
Not sure if it is still practiced now.

This year Sec 1 the school tried to put at least 2 girls from the same primary school in the same class (except if in different special programs or GEP vs Mainstream), not necessarily the exact same t score though.

DD is looking forward to NYGH too... she should be joining its Bilingual class too!

Welcome, Lee yl and Oh My Gosh! 😄

Wow, all your girls are so good in Chinese, envy envy..
My girl scored an A in PSLE (like what close to 70% of the cohort did 😆 ) but no regrets choosing the school, saved me 4 years of Chinese tuition fees. 🦆

Don’t worry about the negative comments.
My girl managed fine the last 4 years without external help.
The resources (notes/test papers/revision papers) provided are adequate in my opinion.
All girls will have access to the test papers.
Lower sec students will get sec 1/2 test papers at the same time.
              Similarly when in upper sec.
The girls just have to manage their time properly, be pro-active and make good use of resources available and they should do fine.

              All the best!

My girl currently at NYGH. She was aso fr non-SAP pri.
During year 1, the chinese teacher insists those who did not take psle higher chinese to come early to school once a week b4 7am, for every week for half a year.
Dont care whether you got A* for psle chinese, so long dont have psle higher chinese must attend the remedial. I was shock.

Then in year 2, principal changed.
Students dont feel good as the new P spent lesser time on students compared to former P.

The good news under the new P is that those non-performing teachers are removed.

The P is new to the school and nanyang family, unlike Mdm Heng who is an old girl and has been the school’s P for several years. She would need to spend time familiarising herself with the school programmes/ system etc. I think it should be quite understandable that she wouldn’t be able to spend as much time with the girls as Mdm Heng in her first year as the school’s principal.

My gal and her teammates had met up with the P previously coz of a CCA issue.
Dd says the P is quite ok. (Their appeal went through successfully 😂 )

I am glad that my dd's form teacher in Y3/4 is responsible as I can see improvement in the system after feedback during the PTM.

What is the fastest way to get to NYGH via DTL?

                      (1) Alight at Sixth Avenue and walk to the School?
                      (2) Alight at Tan Kah Kee station and take the bus
                      (3) Or?

DTL -> 6th Ave take bus 2 stops is probably the fastest, I think
