yah lor, looks like more brainy girls when they are young - more disciplined n focused - i noted this trend has been around for many years le ... i think even in sec sch, more girls perform better - BUT more boys do catch up a lot in Jc / uni - when they catch up,, the speed graph is exponential :scared:

Does the median calculation include affiliated students’ t-score?

          Welcome everyone!

Nope, did not compile or include affiliated scores.

It was noted even during my Primary school days that girls do better at PSLE than boys. But we make our presence felt during higher education 😂

If you go to the MOE SIS full website, by selection of the school you are enquiring, you can see the cop, highest and median scores by affiliated and non-affiliated. The definition and computation of median are also given. They did informed that DSA scores are not included in the calculation.

It is true that most girls perform better than boys when they are younger. Girls are more mature and are able to focus while boys tend to be more playful and all over the place. This can be seen even in their preschool years. Girls are really way ahead especially in the verbal linguistic department.

Boys will however catch up during their teens and this is what we always term as 开窍.

I'm no stats guru but I believe the \"middle\" scores is the exact middle measure between the start and end point. Not sure if it is right but are you looking for a school that is close to ZERO in terms of the median and \"middle\" scores? What happens if the median is higher then the \"middle\" scores? Wouldn't that mean that the cohort is stronger than originally thought? I'm just confused...

                  Absolutely correct.
                  7 students hold the following score: 1, 2, 2, 5, 6, 6, 6.
                  Middle (i.e. mean) = Sum (1:7)/7 = 4
                  Median = 5
Middle is usually skewed by the outlier, i.e. super top-scorer, while median is a better reflection of the strength of the cohort.

I suspect this additional stat provided is preparation in anticipation of the AL banding.

I am an older sister to a sister who just finished PSLE with 242+2.

Parents call her stupid to her face for wasting literally 6 years of money+time spent hovering around her everyday chauffeuring, doing homework, sleeping and teaching (my father works from home so it's possible).
They want her to go to Nan Hua just because it is \"1 mark higher\" than Crescent (both me and my sis choice).
I graduated from Nan Hua and I have a terrible personal experience. Even without it, Crescent is a much better school as it value-adds and is single gender, no need to tie plaits, better uniform.
Just by raising a different opinion, father hit me. He say unless I pay him $2,000 every month for my sister, then I get to decide her school lol.

I feel very sorry for what you and your sis had gone through. Please don’t be disheartened. Your dad may have a good intention, just didn’t express it in the right way.
Every school has its strength and weakness. Don’t share too much negative experience on nan hua with your sis. This may affect her impression and experience in future. If nan Hua is the school she goes to, please try to help her to adapt to the environment and has a smooth transition.
All the best to you and your sis!

Forgive your dad, though I disagree tt he should hit you for voicing out your opinion. Maybe he wants your sis to be in a SAP school, whereas Crescent isn't.

Wonder why so many people have anger issues these days - dad hitting post-secondary daughters. 😓

I couldn’t find the median and “middle” in MOE website  But why would MOE used the word “middle”? It is so un-statistic. Making us confused.

Your table saves parents the trouble of opening and closing the pages, though I also have the same qn as ngl2010. I also wonder if the SIS Median scores had accounted for HCL bonus pts?

Someone sent me another table (COPs from 2004 - 2017) with the respective Affiliation COPs, unfortunately, it doesn't display the Median which is what many parents desire to know (e.g few weeks ago, a parent wanted to find out if her kid would be clustered at the bottom of the cohort if she joins a particular sch, so the Median score on SIS website meets her need).
