Boys are mostly yet to mature till past teens, with some exceptions. Girls will outperform in primary & early sec sch until the self-identity search & BGR comes along. Hence, if u’ve both a boy & a girl, cannot compare them as their learning curve & milestones will be diff. They’ll arrive & surpass the girls esp after NS where most learn responsibilities & leadership, then by Uni they’ll wanna catch up with the girls for ‘lost of 2 years’. Thereafter, the curve shoots further up due to fulfilling the role of the man - 真正开窍 for most young men.
It was noted even during my Primary school days that girls do better at PSLE than boys. But we make our presence felt during higher educationlee_yl:

Seems like girls on the whole did better than boys at PSLE level.
The way the boys’ brains are connected also very different fr the girls. The former are focused in one task whilst the latter multi-tasks & hence slows down as there’ll be more concerns to tackle incl emotions, whereas the boys area of brain to respond to emotions are not as developed, so will be more able to build on their career & interests esp in sciences & engineering.
Girls are born with brain structures with a higher neural connections & tend to be able to process more sensorial and emotive information than boys can. Your girl will tend to sense a lot more of what is going on around them thro’out the day, & they retain that sensorial information more than yr boy. Hence, we say the boys hv not 开窍 & the girls more expressive.
On learning language, it’s typically harder for boys than girls bcoz girls hv verbal centers on both sides of the brain, while boys usu hv verbal only the left. Girls tend to use more words when discussing or describing incidence, story, person, object, feeling, or place. Boys not only hv fewer verbal centers in general but also, often, hv less connectivity btwn their word centers and their memories or feelings. When it comes to discussing feelings and emotions & senses together, girls tend to hv an advantage, & they tend to hv more interest in talking abt these things, not boys. But these gaps can be closed thro coaching & strategizing their learning journey.
Guys’ brains are more developed in their gray matters & information- and action-processing centers in a specific area of the brain. They hv a kind of tunnel vision when they are doing something once they are deeply engaged in a task or game, they may not demonstrate much sensitivity to other people or their surroundings. Do, we typically see boys enjoying & excelling in Math & Science subj whilst girls are more linguistic as it connects them in conversation & building relationships.
Girls hv white brain matter are more extensive & the networking grid that connects the brain’s gray matter and other processing centers with one another is more active, that’s why we noticed that girls tend to more quickly transition between tasks than boys do. The gray-white matter difference may explain why, females are great multi-taskers, while men excel in highly task-focused projects.
The difference also has its origin fr the production of estrogen & testosterone which contribute to boys tending to be less inclined to sit still for as long as females and tend to be more physically impulsive and aggressive.
So we mums & teachers hv to learn strategies to help the boys sit still & focus. And we’ve to watch our girls as they grow & learn to handle their emotions & self-worth v peers. It’s a retrenchment proof job!

Floppy, it is not mean also. For mean, it has to take into account all the students' T-score i.e. add up all the t-scores and then divide by the number of students. I am Maths nerd lah. So, this bothers mefloppy:

I usually leave it to excel to do the job.

On this off topic of boys and girls, I used to think that it was better for my son to be in an all boys primary school where teachers understood that boys have shorter attention spans and do better with more physical (tactile) learning. So he spent his first 3 years in an all-boys school. Then he moved to a co-ed school, and while seems to be the case in our experience that teachers generally like the girls better than the boys (who wouldn’t!), my son came to appreciate the reliability of having girl classmates to check homework with and remind him of the things that flew instantly out of his head.

The middle is just the average of the min and max score (while we still don’t really know the mean)

According to Google search :
Arrange your numbers from lowest to highest and then eliminate them from the left and right, one-by-one. Whichever number remains in the end is the median! Special note: If TWO numbers remain (which happens about half the time), you're supposed to add them together and divide by two.

never thot abt that. Only know of a boy transferred fr Tao Nan bcoz teacher kept betretting him & comparing him with well-behaved, hardworking & organized girls till his self-esteem was crushed but excelled in an all-boys’ sch.
