Yeah! DS2 said \"HENG AH\" after seeing his brother score. Then went around kicking his butt for spoiling market. :faint:
Congrats on your DS “market spoiler” results.
Your DS2 under AL Banding right?lee_yl:
seriously how these kids study? Got parent's push factor? Or purely 开窍?
I know this top scorer in my DC's school studied till 12 midnight
No more tscore, no need to study until midnight le.
Trick is to get AL1 for Chinese.

No need to congratulate leh…Your gal also very good.
Now, I more worry about the new AL banding.
Some folks said with T-Score, the selection of sec school is merit over choice. But when comes to 2021 new AL banding, it is choice over merit. Don’t know how true is this. -

It is, unfortunately (or fortunately), true.No need to congratulate leh....Your gal also very good.

\"Choice Order of Schools to Matter More\"

That said, if you can score PSLE score 4, anything you put as 1st choice will still be your posted school. It's those 5 to 8 pointers thinking of those hot schools that need to strategise. -

What does the new system look like?
Posting will continue to be based on academic merit, using the PSLE Score.
Your child will submit a list of 6 schools in order of preference. If two students with the same score are being considered for the last place in a school, the following tie-breakers will be used:
Citizenship
(priority given to Singapore Citizens, then Singapore Permanent Residents, then International Students)
Choice order of schools (NEW)
(priority given to the student who indicates a certain school as a higher choice)
Computerised balloting -

Use of HCL for Admission into SAP School
When applying to SAP schools, HCL students will continue to receive an advantage.
Although HCL results do not count towards the PSLE Score, if students with the same PSLE Score are vying for limited places in the same SAP school, those with better HCL grades will be allocated a place ahead of other students. This applies before the tie-breakers for S1 posting.
Let’s look at an example. There are 6 students competing for the last 2 places in a SAP school. They have been arranged in descending order of posting priority. The student who has a PSLE Score of 7 will gain admission to the SAP school. Then, out of the students with a PSLE Score of 8, the student with a distinction for HCL will be admitted into the SAP school next, ahead of the other students who also scored 8 but had poorer or no HCL score. The advantage that HCL students will obtain under the new system is similar to that under the current system. -
Assume Boy Boy’s Chinese is his weakest subject,
Under current PSLE tscore:
3A* + Chinese A, still can go RI/HCI
Under AL Banding:
3AL1 + Chinese AL 2 = 5 pointers
Either kena cut-off by 4 pointers or have to go balloting. -
OKAY…gotta make sure my ah boy’s chinese is steady steady pom pi pi

Under the old (current) system, balloting only occurs in verrrrrry rare instances, where 2 students (with same citizenship status) have the exact same decimal points in their T score. The emphasis is thus very much on academic merit.
But under the new system, we can expect balloting to occur much more often. I’m guessing there will be at least few hundred (?) kids with same total score, applying to the same popular school, as the same choice number. Computer balloting occurs to determine which kids get those X number of places in that school. The hard work (merit) put in for academic studying is trumped finally by LUCK.
