lc, you have any recommendations on the gals/emotional friendship/family books? Yesterday dd mentioned this author Yanghongying says she likes and that she has some of her books, should been bought at lower primary ba...I was like 'ding' maybe get her these kind of books to rekindle her interest in non comic books..yup, now that I recalled she read those many Roald Dahl chinese versions books during lower primary..MrsKiasu:
@ estee, I don't have much fun strategies leh. You know lah, boys are a different creature. For them, quickly complete the works assigned by parents then can proceed to play liao. They don't care whether there are some wrong or even 1 wrong. Afterall kena \"wrong\" still scold. 1 wrong = careless also scold/nag. So might as well just complete the work can liao. Good thing about teaching boys, is when you scold them, they will not remember a thing thereafter.
@ MKS, maybe you can get your gals to read Chinese story books about gals or those emotional friendship/family books that can hook their interest.
:yikes:
I am impressed! May I know how your DD1 get to know this author 杨红樱? Did your DD1's school intro this author to them or she happens to come across her books in the library?
My girl read one of her books in the 马小跳 series (compulsory reading by her Chinese teacher). Subsequently, DH went to the library to get her more of her books from the 笑猫日记 series like 从外星球来的孩子.
it was few yrs back already..I asked dd when did she read it..she forgotten too. It should be gotten there while holiday or there was a time a mommy there helped us to order..now we are not in contact liao..
lee yl, can get those books from nlb?
before dd slept, J asked her abt the author, she mentioned 笑猫日记 ..马小跳looks familiar too..and this too 从外星球来的孩子
she read those in lower primary..now going backwards to comics

esteema, I sometimes think I should be the bad person who killed the interest of reading in both kids. Both kids started off to like reading so much once they learned how to read though I seldom read to them when young..dd1 started off with love for both types comics and non comics, I guess because I m impatient, I seem to be forever rushing them..comic probably can finish faster ba..and also cause dd1 kinda ended up reading quite fast..skipping words/weak even with frequently appeared common words..I always think part if not all is due to me. dd did say stressful after SA2..after reading some postings, I m more careful, asking her no need feel stress..just slowly pick up habit of constant revision, end of day no shock due to lack of time..today briefly spoken to 2 new friends daughters who are in international school..upon hearing their long hours in school, dd told me she feels that hers not as stressful anymore

We’re all not perfect parents MKS. I made many myself & it’s so hard s’times not to look back with guilt & “what cld hv been”. But these days I try to look at their positive attributes & just give them lots of hugs & feel thankful at least they’ve not gone wayward, rebellious, depressive or bo chap attitude. I’ve restrained myself fr 极端 guidance but pace & Teri’s based on their characters, s’times moods, motivation. Basically work along their willingness to cooperate with suggestions, ‘carrots’ or affirmation in their journey to encourage more self-directed learning.

I am shocked to hear your that DD1 read those titles a few years back! Mine here only started reading them in P4/P5!
My DH used to be a fan of Chinese comics like 龙虎门、中华英雄、风云,before progressing to Jap comics like Slam Dunk, 钢拳儿 and 棋魂 etc. He only stopped reading comics only in his 30s hor!! Lol.
After we got married, I “donated away”
his large collection of comics.
Hubby says you can try Chinatown Point NLB. Yanghongying books whole shelves 满满. A huge array of Chinese books for kids, your DD1 will love it. -

When I was in my 30s, I can stand for hours. Now in my 40s, my back ache alot when I stand for long hours. Must admit I am no longer that young anymore.
totally agree with you.

I imagine a mountain and age 40 is probably the peak. After 40, it is going downhill

Chief, you can read 3 books a day? What type of book woah? Marvel comic book also ah? :siam:
I wish got comic books leh. Library only have storybooks. Only the richer students can bring in comics. I remember after PSLE there were plenty of comics around. Teachers no longer seem to care.
