Any chance of getting into NC with score of 240? Put it as 1st choice to gamble.

Affiliation with NYJC doesn't matter if you can score well and utilise other areas like CCA Bonus points. And why limit urself to NYJC if your child may have the potential to score well enough to qualify for other top tiers like VJ or Hwachong (since the cut-off points isn't that demanding compared to my time), isn't it?

I am a NY alumnus myself and I would just say aim higher instead of just zooming in on a particular JC at this point in time and ignoring other factors. I myself preferred Hwachong over NY and had been borrowing Hwachong notes quite often to study instead back den.
As for more detailed insights I can't offer any help since I was previously from Nan Hua and dk dat much of what is in Nan Chiau or Chung Cheng either.
Only thing I can say is that Nan Chiau is indeed more flexible than Nan Hua in terms of subject combi for o lvl. In Nan Hua we are forced to take 2 humanities in order to take 3 pure sciences just becoz the sch wants to push for more \"10 distinctions\"
. Not sure abt Chung Cheng but no such nonsense in Nan Chiau from what I know. -

Actually, if you look at the JCs' COPs for the past few years, it's not exactly that much easier to get into NYJC either. NYJC's entry COP was just slightly below RI, HCI and VJC only. -
I agree with this point! I did't meant to differentiate NY from other top-tier JCs. (probably my expression in the earlier comment may have made it appearing that way
)
What I wanted to highlight was dat its probably too early to take into account what specific JC a sec-sch student-to-be would pursue, their motivations and decisions probably would change overtime especially when nearing the point where they have to make the decision 3 yrs later. For them, thrs still 4 years ahead and they have yet to even explore and transit into secondary school life.
Thats why I feel dat using affiliation to a JC as a major factor of comparison would be too far-fetched...
What matters should be more towards whether the school have the resources to aid the students in really discovering and achieving what they set out for, including getting the necessary results to enter their dream tertiary institution, be it with or without the affiliation bonus point (which only matters if the student's results allow it to). -
Think apart from the part that the post sounded like a preference for Hwa Chong JC rather than Nanyang JC, Eddisema did brought up a valid point, that is it is probably too early to make "the benefit to enter a particular JC" a major factor when considering for sec 1 posting. It is probably too early for that to be a matter to the kids at the point in time to differentiate out their impressions of the individual JCs.

You sounded more like alumnus of Nan Chiau and HwaChong.

I was taking the assumption based on my cohort (and nan chiau o lvl results is relatively close to nan hua o lvl results). Imo it shdt be too much of an issue getting into a decent JC.

And to be fair, I graduated fm nan hua in 2015 (took triple sciences and dats why I wasnt pleased when i heard fm my peers in jc dat thr sch dont enforce double humanities with triple scis). I do acknowledge dat i seems to hav a hwachong feel in me, not wrong in the sense dat though I studied in NY, i didt really fit into the culture and vibes at all. During J2, i often just sneak into hwachong and study with my sec 4 classmates thr, borrowing their teaching aid (an exam smart person shd more or less know why i am doing this).
I did tried to apply into hwachong as my first choice dat time. I got 9 raw and I opted for CLEP in both hwachong and NY, and guess most of us dk dat for CLEP if u meet the COP for both jcs using -6 bonus points including -2 for taking CLEP they assign base on the quota of the jc, and NY took me. I wanted to appeal, but my whole family got dengue including me and my dad was admitted into hosp the day before the posting results was out. And I was forced to screw the appeals coz my father resented appealing (scolding what 不是靠自己考进去的还求人家施舍，不要脸, in front of other patients somemore wtf), I cant do much wat i havet recovered myself and I just can’t imagine how screw it would be if I had chose to walk out of the hospital and do an appeal.
Since then I just couldt stop benchmarking my jc with where i wanted badly to go. And also i realised no matter how the bonus point can help, it still lies on how well we can score to edge out in the net score. So I don’t really view those bonus pts as imptly as the ability to secure a 6 pt (or whatsoever score that can secure a good standing for the jc dat u wanted to get into).
Thats why I say rather focus on being formadible on the result slip than focus on thinking that u hav the advantage over others coz u hav the bonus pts.
