...So while I have my wish list for boys schools and wish list for girls schools, is my best option to move to the best CO-ED school as its logistically the only way to get them all in? Then go all out qualifying for 2B (just once, hopefully in, and then all 3 will be in).
      ...
Floppy, do you know is there any website or link which lists the average PSLE score of each Primary school for say the most recent year?
Your best option depends on which of the earlier phases are available for you.
Phase 2A1 / 2 - maybe you don't like your or your spouse primary school.
Phase 2B - ? GRL would be too late; for the popular schools, it would be too late for PV as well. Likely option would be via religious affiliation.

There isn't such a website. MOE has stopped announcing or making known the top / bottom / average PSLE score. KSP has a 'crowdsourced' version for previous year but the data is highly questionable.

My situation: daddy is singaporean, mommy is canadian, kids are dual citizens: singapore and canadian citizens. Neither of us went to school here in Singapore, so our only hope is 2B. After Primary 6, we plan to send our son to Canadian Intl School. We want the Primary levels in the local schools for him, as the academics are stronger than intl schools.

So the question is, what are THE best Primary schools here. This is hard to find an answer, as the affiliation scheme sort of screws up the demand for Primary schools (cuz parents want the kids to get into the 'good' affiliated secondary school). For us, thats not the goal.

So purely speaking, in terms of the fundamental education, what are say the the \"best\" top 3 primary schools with respect to pure education (ignore affiliation and popularity)?

Thanks so muchf for your help and guidance.

Ok great that you have shared more info.

So u can definitely eliminate those schools with affiliation.

How keen are you for your kids to learn Mandarin?? If yes, then the SAP schools would be the best ones for that purpose.

And I’m curious, if the long-term plan is for the kids to go to an international school (which is definitely co-ed), why the need to segregate them for their primary school education? Why not just let them get used to co-ed environment right from the start?

How to define the “best” top 3 is always controversial. I can name (off the top of my head) some schools like Nanyang Primary & Ai Tong Primary that are good for academic rigor. But the downside is that your kids will be subject to high stress levels and intense backstabbing competition. Is that necessary when they are going to international school later on?? Is your intention to squeeze the best PSLE result out of your kids’ latent potential? Do they even need high PSLE scores to enter international school??

There are other popular schools like Henry Park Primary & St Hilda’s Primary, which I heard are more all-rounded/holistic yet produce good academic results. These are non-SAP and would suit your kids better if u don’t care much about Mandarin. I do not know if Henry Park takes PVs. But you are probably too late for St Hilda’s PV which needs minimum 80 hours. You still can get a balloting chance under 2C if u move <1km. Lucky draw.

When you say Phase 2B, what are you going to rely on? Given your family set-up, my assumption is religion. If that’s the case, what would it be - Catholic, Methodist, Presbyterian, etc? Phase 2B isn’t a free-for-all, you will be limited by your privileges. PV, as I said previously, may not be available for most of the popular schools anymore.

While there isn’t an easy way of establishing the “best” primary schools, there is some correlation between the schools’ popularity and success. Why (and why do Singaporeans always queue at the longest queue in a hawker centre)? Schools that parents do not mind scaling mountains and walking over fire to qualify have a strong tradition and history of producing well-rounded and academically excellent students, hence, their popularity. BTW Many of these schools can draw on resources from beyond the ministry, from clans, religious bodies, alumni etc. Similar characteristics to many affiliated schools, therefore, affiliated schools popularity go beyond mere “affiliation “.

P/s: That said, no guarantee of success in these schools. They may also produce the odd child who may not rank highly academically.

I won’t put names to these schools but it’s not difficult to find out - they are same ones hitting the news every year (and zac’s mom has just named some of them)!

Frankly, if the next step (beyond primary education) is to study in an international school, I won’t bother with trying that hard to get into a popular primary school. There are a number of co-ed schools that are often overlooked or overshadowed by more popular nearby schools but would probably serve your needs better.

At the end of the day, all schools are able to offer your kids a well-rounded and academically grounded education - you don’t have to stress yourself to get in and you may not even need to shift house.

Ah yes, and examples of such schools would be Tanjong Katong Primary & Opera Estate Primary.

These are chillax schools that are more “cosmopolitan” ie they have a higher population of expat foreigners. The racial mix would be much more similar to international schools. The emphasis may lean more towards the “A” artistic/speech & drama aspect of STEAM education. But your kids will still get taught the MOE core syllabus & textbooks, academically speaking. By virtue of your kids’ Singaporean citizenship, it’s a sure spot in these schools, even if you don’t stay nearby. You’d save yourself the time & hassle of doing PV.

Hi all, new to this forum, only kid is sg50 boy. Currently staying at Pasir Ris & have the more popular schs Gongshang/Poi Ching located <2km. H/w, considering new place arnd Katong area & Tanjong Katong/Tao Nan/Ngee Ann/St Stephen are <2km.

Hubs is ex student @ Ngee Ann but not alumni. How should I go about narrowing down my choices? We do prefer a co-ed sch in case my second is a bb gal. :thankyou:

Simplest option - Ngee Ann under Phase 2A2 (former student). Shift closer (preferably under 1km) to minimize headache and heartache for now and future (when school starts).

Gungho option - for popular schools, e.g. Gongshang, Tao Nan, etc, you have got move within 1km (anything > 1km, you will be out) to have a balloting chance. Warning: You may still get ballot out after all that effort.

Nothing much to narrow down IMHO.

Hello fellow alumni’s wife. There’s no need to join or pay for Ngee Ann alumni, just print out psle result slip enough. There’s also no need to stay <2km for alumni, confirm get in so you can stay put at your current place & save money.
