chiclil:
This is my girl’s orientation week.
Tbh, are you really the parent of NYGH? If you are, you should know what was done few days ago. And btw, why would you say your Sec 1 girl traumatised? I don't understand. If your dd is Sec 1, all the girls were in the hall few days ago. I will not elaborate here further unless you are not the actual parent from the school.Ganjiongspider:
Have not been active as my elder daughter has graduated but it is really upsetting to be welcomed by this incident for my Sec 1 girl. She is traumatised in this first month.
When the incident is taking place, no other teachers around or students around ?? Why nobody stopped this teacher ? Physical contact on kids are to be taken very seriously. No teachers should be allowed to touch the kids in uniform check.
Measures must be taken to ensure this teacher will never do it again. Without knowing why she does it .. how do we ensure she won’t do it again?
Our girls are being assured. CASE CLOSED!
Please bear in mind. She just joined the school and still trying to very hard to adapt into a new school and all girls environment.
Though she is not being spot checked, with two talks in a row in two days, she is stressed. Every kid is different. So please spare your judgement
Why I made such judgement was based on the way you you put it across - sound like your girl was physically touched during the spot check - your girl was traumatised - followed by your series of questions - \"When the incident is taking place, no other teachers around or students around ?? Why nobody stopped this teacher ? Physical contact on kids are to be taken very seriously. No teachers should be allowed to touch the kids in uniform check.\"
There was only 1 Sec 4 class get affected.
So if your Sec 1 dd was traumatised indirectly, please approach P directly or the counsellor for consultation. Please be careful in the way you put the message across. If I can misinterpret your message, I'm sure other forummer also mis-read your interpretation. -
Hi,
I am not a NYGH parent for sure. I am considering schools for my child coming DSA. -
My DD is in Sec 1 this year. She and her classmates are definitely NOT traumatized by the incident. They were briefed earlier during orientation what is acceptable and what is not in terms of school attire and general grooming. For example, colored bras are not acceptable due to the white uniform.
I believe all NYGH parents would have received an email from the school regarding the incident and the school has apologized for any unhappiness caused. The P is not wrong to carry out random spot checks to ensure compliance to the school rules. Unfortunately, due to miscommunications, the process of the checks left some girls feeling very upset. Since the P and the teacher have apologized, and would modify the checks to be conducted, we should just close the chapter and move on.
My DD’s tutor once commented that 南洋女中的校风很好!I believe this is what every NYGH parent would like to hear and see. -
Justice Bao:
What unknown location and unknown motive r u talking about? Sweep under the carpet, how?Hi! I am puzzled with the rude and defending mode in ”Ganjiongspider”
I am a Sec 4 parent.
The P did a very sincere apology and “damage control” job. My heart goes to her and thumb up for her.
But it does not take away the fact that a teacher unbuttoning the girls in location ( unknown), motive ( unknown) and where is form teacher?
Were the parents exactly brief where, what and how it happened?
So by asking questions, I don’t think Chic Lil is wrong.
In addition, I agree with Chic Lil that we need to fact find rather than sweep in under the carpet’s approach. By the way, I am an old girl, I love NYGH too.
Where was the FT? The FT is a male teacher ...So u expect the male FT to be around when the school conducts undergarment check?
My dd is from the affected Sec 4 class ... We parents knew exactly what happened on that day ...
The teacher already apologised to the whole school regarding the incident ...
The P also updated all parents and apologised to parents via email ...
And the P again updated and apologised to all parents during Friday PTM ...
So r u really a Sec 4 NYGH parent? I don't think your questions were appropriate ... -
A Friend checking up on NYGH for DSA this year asked me to read up about the recent spot check incident. Being a NYGH Sec 4 parent, I would like to share my views.
As mentioned in the above posts, we received an email from P on Thursday evening regarding a female’s teacher’s (Sec 4 Year Head) approach in conducting attire check (beginning of the week) that caused some girls to be uncomfortable. The attire check has been done by various teachers and the Year Head but she was so offensive which caused some girls to comment about it on Instagram. Many kids of other schools have learnt about it on Tuesday night. How offensive was it? I thought we will get the details during PTM on Friday. Nope, parents were told not to listen to what was being spread but at the same time, they did not address what did the teacher do in details either…
Yes, our school took measures immediately. On Thursday, the Year Head apologized to the Sec 4s, P issued an apology email in the same evening, she also addressed this matter first thing during the PTM on Friday and had individual meetings with some affected students and parents. We appreciate these really.
What’s next you may ask? They say they will continue to monitor. But here is the thing, since we are neither the victims nor their parents, we cannot simply ask people to not talk about this or simply have a closure or move on. For all you know, some victims or parents are afraid to come forward to speak to the school authority. Why? Because they are afraid their DD will be marked. Many questions popped up in my head when my DD told me about this incident. Why didn’t our 16 year old victims stop the Year Head? Why didn’t any of the classmates say something out loud to stop her when they feel that a teacher should not behave in that manner? Instead, they choose to rant on the Instagram and that’s how the news went viral. As a parent, I would like to know what will happen to the Year Head. This is because our girls spend most of their time in school. What caused the Year Head to behave like that? Don’t you want a safe environment for your child? If rules and regulations are in place for your child to adhere to, shouldn’t it be the same for the teachers / staff? Yes, I agree - give them time to resolve this. BUT please also bear this in mind, time will pass quickly and soon most people will forget about this matter and the victims. -
I am a huge supporter of current P. I think she is the best thing that happens to NYGH. She added a new mission - agent of change. She wants the girls to be an agent of change. My greatest fear in this incident is them - Shutting up of the girls. Which amazingly the current P did not. She preached what she talked. At no time of time, did she use Nanyang family to silence the girls whom have differing views from her expressing it publicly.
In the past, we will silence everybody by telling the girls not to “ express” their unhappiness in internet, public but to keep your “ not nice views” “ different views” to yourself and let only one view comes up. That is the old school of thought. There are parents whom welcome a decent discussion without calling out every different views Not Nanyang family. We have 1600 kids and 3200 parents. It cannot be only one stand is allowed and only one view is permitted in this forum.
If your view is different from mine, then we are not nanyang parents ??
As parents, let us be an example of agent of change too. Let more opinions, views expressed and flourished. -

The other day, one friend asked me whether the rumour that male teachers were also involved in the inspection was true. Sometimes, we don't need to believe word for word on whatever was posted on the internet like Instagram (or for that matter, public forums like this). For all we know, some of the accounts could be exaggerated or embellished? I say take postings on the internet with \"a pinch of salt\".A Friend checking up on NYGH for DSA this year asked me to read up about the recent spot check incident. When in doubt, you may wish to seek clarification with the school or drop the Principal an email, I am sure the P will be most willing to share the information with you. -
I applaud Mdm Ng for her immediate action and clear explanation in the email. But it really does not stop me from asking more questions.
We are all parents here who wants to share and learn from one another. My take away from this incident is why no girls dare to speak up ? It may not happen to my girl directly but we all have kids and feel for that particular girl. Even if she is 1 out of 1600 , it still warrants a concern as it violate her privacy.
So I talked to both my HCI and Sec 1 girls , both dare not say no to the teachers if it happened to them too. Have it occurred to you why they dare not say no although they have every right to ?
Neither you nor me represent all parents in this school , I am speaking from my own experience via my girls. There is always 2 sides of the coin and we are all free to state what we think. You can move on if you want but it is my prerogative to ask for that one extra SOP or actions to ensure no repetition.
PS. I am asking not because I do not hear my kids version. Actually like what Lee YL said, I was expecting an official version from sch. With 1,600 kids, we may have 1600 versions or less. During Sec 1 PTM , Mdm Ng mentioned she reads this forum too so I hope she picks this up. Thank you -

Well, if the Instagram Posts written by the girls are not true, would the Year Head apologise? Was P’s email (with regrets) necessary? The girls ranted because they want their voices to be heard using another outlet (that they think is best) and it worked! The other day, one friend asked me whether the rumour that male teachers were also involved in the inspection was true. Not all teenagers share information with their parents. Parent-child relationship may not be at its best during teen years. So don’t ever take their words or posts for granted.
My point is still what’s next and not closure. Like what P said in her email, I will follow up with her directly. -

Are you saying that ALL the IG postings are truthful accounts?
