Wondering how the system works. My girl gotten seat in DHS which is her 4th choice. Her o results 8 points (12-4). Her third choice is acjc and the cop is 8. Maybe wants to take in more students that took HCL? :?
In the end, what comes to the table is the 'raw score'
In spite of working hard in getting all bonus points, grades still rule the world

From the MOE website: \"Applicants are posted to a course based on merit according to their net aggregate scores (taking into account the various bonus points for which applicants are eligible for). Applicants with better net aggregate scores will be considered for admission first, subject to the availability of vacancies in the selected course. If there are no vacancies, the applicants will be considered for their next choice course.kiasupoh:

In situations where there are two or more applicants with the same net aggregate score vying for the last place in a course, they will be posted based on their citizenship status in the order of Singapore Citizens, Singapore Permanent Residents and then International Students. If there is still a tie, for example between two Singapore Citizens with the same net aggregate score, the one with the better gross aggregate score will be posted to the course first. If there is still a tie between the two citizens with the same gross aggregate scores, posting to the course will be determined by a computerised ballot where each candidate is given an equal opportunity.\"
So bonus points still help up to a point, citizenship is considered. Bonus points are only disregarded when there is a need for a tie-breaker, and in the last resort, there will be a ballot. I guess if the student does meet the COP, it may be worth appealing, especially if there are other strong considerations (CCA etc) which are not one of the factors considered in JAE. -

In love1001 sil situation, her nephew has a better grade than my dd but he is not posted to DHS, could it be he did not took up HCL?Just to share the same happened to my nephew too!
He prefers poly but parents (especially SIL) wants him to go JC. He got 8 points (10-2) and Dunman is the first choice due to proximity to home. They appealed today but many are appealing too. Some are 9 pointers whereas others are 8.
SIL even called MOE to enquire the reason for meeting COP but did not get posted to the JC but MOE officer only suggest them to go down to JC and appeal. Did not disclose any additional information.
@mylilgirl - I dropped you a PM. Thanks to check. -

I agree. Bonus points do help! Absolutely no doubt about it.
But when we a have situation of one seat & two or more competing for it grades pulls us up!
Thanks for the response. Have a good Day! -

His grade is better than her grade, but both are still not better than someone who scores 8 (without any bonus point). -
Its Demand vs Supply Rule when vacancies are limited
I think acjc sci is rather popular, my fren child got into acjc art ( 11-2bonus = 9) that means not many competition with Raw score 9 applicants.
Raw Score - 1st priority -
I heard fr colleague poly cut off points also drop by 3 points (for popular course ! eg HR, Biz courses) ?? How true, anyone knows to verify this "hear say info"

I find it strange if they are applying for the same stream - if there are insufficient places for students with net 8 pts, then the one with gross 10 pts should have got a place over the one with gross 12 pts. If it went to ballot, the the one with 12 pts shouldn't have been considered at all? But it was the girl with gross 12 pts who got a place. So my guess is that they applied for different streams.HCL has nothing to do with it.

However, the Dunman COPs which someone posted are 9 and 10 for Science and Arts respectively, so both should have got places with net 8 pts? -

Unless that someone is Ng Chee Meng or Ong Ye Kung, take what you see or read with a healthy pinch of salt until MOE officially releases the result.
