Will this incident affect you, as a parent, to sway against choosing this school?

Parents complain or criticize the school now but when the time come, they will still fight toe and nail to get in into NYGH, we cannot underestimate Singaporean's obsession with elite or top school.

This is a baseless and unintelligent allegation. Speaking about yourself ???

[/quote]Walau....such strong words in the first day of CNY, 和气生财lah,万事如意!

Too bad I dont have a DD, if have and she is qualified and interested to go NYGH, why not? One issue or a school rule will not destroy the school's foundation built over nearly a century. NYGH is still a very good school. If we have a problem with a teacher or school rule, we as a parent will have to engage the school management to improve it. I may be unintelligent but I am not stupid lah.

                Hi,

My DD is in year 1. I can’t comment much on the much hyped incident as it did not affect my girl directly.

However, I want to say that in my girl’s one month with the school, the experience has been positive.

Like many other parents, I like the P and find her an excellent role model. She is young, feminine, yet firm and confident.

The school vibes are loving and nurturing. My girl has been reading books recommended by the school to develop a growth mindset and grow in confidence. The focus of the sec 1 ptm was how to help girls be brave and not overthink, as girls are wont to do. The orientation was well run and interesting. There was an outdoor activity at Botanic Gardens and a wonderful campfire.

My girl was admitted via dsa bilingual. She was randomly sorted into a mixed class, but also invited to take part in the Commonwealth essay writing competition and a ch creative writing course. Only I don’t like how there are two exclusive gep classes.

Her classmates are positive as I can see from the class posts on Instagram and they have bonded very well. One or two of her teachers are clearly quite outstanding. Her English teacher recommended a New York Times bestseller to her class and I saw my girl downloading and reading the ebook.

All in all, I feel glad that my girl has chosen Nyghs (she had a second CO offer) and that she is lucky to find a school that is taking good care of her.

                    Hi sob7,

So your girl is in Rgs? Thank you for your good wishes! Both are really good schools. For us, distance was the main factor.

Old already. Kids all in sec school. Even ‘know’ some fellow forummers after following them over the years… Time to focus on myself, let go in some ways and help the kids in different ways, as they go through teenagehood. All the best to your girl too!!
