the logic of giving top brass million dollar salaries is to ensure they don’t get corrupted.

although I don’t quite agree to this logic, there’s nothing we can do…but since they are getting this sky high amount, then they have to justify and make sure they do their job.

look at the recent cock up cases…they are serious!
the fatalities of the NS men. where was the defence minister? did he show up at the wakes to give these young men his last respect? they passed away while serving the nation, in the line of duty.
the lapse of HIV case. hepatitis case at SGH.

Paying top salaries = best performance ?

Is there accountability for receiving such responsibility and salary?

I don't seem to see best performance...if not because Aloysius is a MediaCorp celebrity, it would be hush hush.
after the military funeral, it's business as usual.
I'm not an oppie...but the recent cases have really pissed many off. citizens are unhappy over the CPF.

In the Straits Times today (9 Feb), Finance Minister Heng Swee Keat was quoted as saying that “if the lapse shows that the leader has been slack, negligent or incompetent, then serious consequences must follow, including removal”.

Those seem like brave words. But unfortunately, they were also empty ones.

There are way too many examples of current PAP Ministers demonstrating high levels of incompetency and slackness. I will just give 4 diverse examples to show how things have screwed up big time under various PAP Ministers and MPs who are still sitting rock solid in their fat-salaried political appointments.

Firstly, it emerged that the ex-GM of AMK Town Council Victor Wong was on the take for about 2 years in a constituency comprising 6 PAP MPs, including one junior minister and PM Lee himself. Until today, despite widespread financial losses suffered by AMK residents, none of those 6 MPs faced any serious consequences.

Next, Khaw Boon Wan who is currently the Transport Minister must be severely chastised. In fairness, overall rail reliability has somewhat improved in recent times. Looking back however, over many years with nincompoop paper general Desmond Kuek at the helm of SMRT and under Khaw’s watch, disruptions were aplenty and unreliability became a mainstay of affairs.

to begin with, PM brought his Oxley road/problems with siblings to parliament....airing dirty linen in public and unprofessional.
LKY's last wish to have his house demolished was not even observed.

'Unit commanders who do not meet safety standards or who commit safety lapses will be marked in their performance reviews even if accidents do not occur.'
can NS men really report if their commanders do not meet safety standards? this must be a joke.

Dr Ng said he was \"deeply sorry for the loss of four precious national servicemen in the last 17 months\".
in the first place, these fatalities can be avoided. the families have lost their son FOR GOOD.

if construction sites can aim for zero accidents, zero fatalities, why can't SAF do the same? we bring up our sons and entrust them to MINDEF at the age of 18/19 to serve NS. What we want is the promise that they return home safe and sound.

In fairness, they are doing their job. They probably see these separate incidents as unprecedented and "one-offs". It is a dangerous preposition to ask every minister to resign with every high profile case. Saying this I also am clear that the punishment for such lapses are not transparent… Some times it feels like they get away scot free. But looking at other countries, you know that a sudden change in government or leaders results in short term planning, people start to do things for public popularity and wayang instead of doing real work. To balance it out, they are competent, but they are not exceptional in doing what matters for us, the people. Just my opinion.

Why should the government bend over backwards to accommodate the private last wish of anybody, even LKY?

If it is a heritage house, it should go through the usual assessment process with the NHB and the URA.

I don't see how this is a 'failure' at all. The only failure is someone as supposedly intelligent as LHY and LWL not understanding such a simple thing.
