2020 P1 Registration Exercise for 2021 In-take

"Hello parents, i have 2014 son and we are living in lor ah soo area. In 2 years from now he will go to primary school. I know that its based on distance, and volunteer etc to register primary school. The problem is, only 1 primary school which is Xing Hua PS around our area. But all my family and colleagues and neighbors not recommend this school for our son based on their experiences. Said that its not a good school, later my son cant follow the standard for psle etc. So another choice is Maris Stella, and Holly Innocent. But the things is all is way too far from our place, around 2-3km distance.do you think is there any way to make a bigger chance for my son to register 1 of the primary school above?


Or any other advise is welcome too (me and my husband not born in SG and never have education in SG so we dont know anything about the registering for education here, only based on google and suggestions from other peoples. But we are singaporean! )

If u happen to be Catholic, you might get a chance to ballot for a seat via Phase 2B >2km for Holy Innocents/Maris Stella.


However if your son will not be taking Higher Chinese as his Mother Tongue Language, he cannot apply to Maris Stella. They only offer one MTL option.

2. Shift house.
Or even better:

If Ur not Singaporean and and your son is not Singaporean your chances are zero

I need some advice. My daughter will be in PH 2c and we are between 1-2km for
Alexander Pri, gan eng seng, new town and zhangde. I prefer Alexander but what’s the odds of getting in? I also have Queenstown Pri being less than 1km. Thanks!

Alexandra Primary has balloting for <1km so you have zero chance.

For all the other schools mentioned, you have a good chance. Just pick the nearest one.

Does this mean that all those who applied to BTPS during phase 2C - including any PRs - had a straight-forward admission, without any ballot? This is important for us to understand.

2. Did schools like BTPS add an extra class only for this year (‘dragon’ kids), or is it a permanent addition?

I don’t think BTPS has ever balloted in Phase 2C or before. Therefore, everyone who had applied to it in Phase 2C and before would have gotten in.

Given that total places in schools haven’t been fully utilized and some schools even have to merge to maintain efficient use of resources, no classes have been added because of Dragon year. You should count your blessings off number of available places don’t go down further this year.

There were more places added to cater for larger Dragon Year cohort P1 registration in 2018. Additional 1 class for BTPS in 2018 vs 2017,2016.

Ok, I went back to the 2018 thread and dug out (on page 364 of that thread) this image that I posted. This should answer once and for all your qn:

In other words, if you apply to BTPS under phase 2C, you are absolutely safe.

It is those people who went to place their bets at some popular school during phase 2C but failed, then went to BTPS at 2C(S) but unfortunately insufficient places left there, so the SCs >2km had to ballot.

Yes, BTPS added an extra class for 2018 Dragon year. No idea regarding this year. But MOE will reveal the number of total vacancies per school in a few months’ time.
