        Hi Teacher

My kid is weak in CL & HCL comprehension, may i know Is there any technique to make them understand what the question asking for. Sometimes, the question asks for 想法 but the answer sheet need action and thinking to be written too. Really confusing.
There are 4 levels of comprehension for PSLE Chinese Language in the 7 questions in Paper 2. And every level requires different skills to master it.

What are the 5 steps to refocus on PSLE?

Step 1, What is your target PSLE T-score?
Step 2, What is your biggest strength and weakness?
Step 3, Whats the 6 dates to note after this week.
Step 4, What is the Tools you need to prepare before the PSLE?
Step 5, Come up with a Plan or just study 4 hours every Day.

Was recommended by a parent in Facebook forum.

We have similarities! If she can help my child, yours should be fine too. You are lucky to get a slot. Back then, we waited 4 to 7 months for a slot.
She do not force my kid to remember words on the first day or the lesson itself. As humans we all tend to forget words we used to know. She uses Pleco translate words into pinyin and English to allow tiny child to understand better. Step by step process, unlike those tutors or tuition centres. Going through exam papers or force them to write a lot but they don’t get it. If you don’t rush into things, this is a good approach. We exempted him my eldest child for Chinese but he is still taking chinese from her. My younger’S application got rejected, she tries her best and encouraging him a lot.

Can any teachers help. My kid school teacher keep restricting my kid to write only 3 pages for compo. Is it advisable. My kid usually can write up to 3.5 or 4 pages with good phrases. I thinks 3 pages only limit kid to using good phrase, so is this PSLE standard to write only 3 pages? Please advise. Thanks

Some teachers are more conservative and err to the side of caution or have their own preferences, e.g. some do not want their students to use flashback because at the end of the compo if you do not 'come back' to the current time, then the flashback is incomplete.

In this case regarding the length, I believe the teacher is concern about 多写多错 - be it in terms of language (grammar), content (irrelevant) and/or incorrect 'flexing' (a.k.a. spamming of good phrases inaccurately).

One thing for sure is, in the marking criteria, there is no such thing for being marked down/penalised due to 'excessive' length of compo. What's the mark range your child has been getting? Has it been consistent? During the 誊清 (correction/2nd draft), besides length, what are the common issues raised by the teacher?

No. But if your child writes excessively out of key point, it's unconstructive. well developed Key points should be around 3-4pg (240 words per page). 文笔很好,懂得发挥写作技巧的学生大可尽管发挥。但要切记只发挥考题重点。

I think You can safely ignore your classroom teacher's advise and encourage your child to go for it and write 3.5-4 pages. In PSLE there is no formal limit to how long your child can write.

Next grading is not according to page length but content and language. So long compositions do not really matter as long as your child are cleared of
                        1) Sentence construction mistakes and
                        2) grammar and vocabulary mistakes.

So if your child can do it, do encourage them to write more.

refer them to articles below to learn more on scoring in Chinese Compositions.
