I posted this in the Travel section, but didn’t get any responses, so seeing if I get responses in this section!

Just want to ask if anyone has used a Singapore student card (eg. from NUS/NTU) to get student discounts in the UK recently? If not, is it worth getting my daughter to buy the ISIC card before we go? We are going to the UK in 2 week’s time, so we’ve left it a bit late to ask!

Reading through https://thesmartlocal.com/read/student-discounts-europe by The Smart Local, if discounts are what you are looking for, there isn't an uniform answer. In some places, you can get through discount with student visa while others would require a https://www.nus.org.uk/en/nus-extra/ / ISIC card. National Theatre and National Rail only needs proof of age to sign up for their https://www.nationaltheatre.org.uk/entry-pass and https://www.16-25railcard.co.uk/using-your-railcard/the-benefits/.

That said, ISIC is only SGD25, I would suggest go get it if she's going to be there for some time. Take a look at the https://www.myisic.co.uk/. I think you can easily recover the $25 over 1 weekend. No need to worry about where can / cannot get discounts.

Have replied you in the https://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=93578&p=1912451#p1912451.

          TL;DR version:
Go sign up ISIC. Only SGD 25.

Thanks! I know we have used foreign cards as proof of being a student; just wanted to know if it’s changed. And it seems not all places have student discounts anyway. I think we’ll just chance it. We aren’t going to that many ticketed places, and 1 child has a UK student card.

Pls share your experience when you are back. We’re leaving for London on 20 June, and I am also wondering if my son’s NTU student card can get him concession price.

I'll try to share once we've tried it. We won't be back till early Jul, but I should have wifi where we are staying in the UK.

Are you only visiting London, or going elsewhere as well? I notice that some places don't seem to have a student concession, based on their website info. I'm only going to be in London for 2 nights then moving on.
