Can any teachers help. My kid school teacher keep restricting my kid to write only 3 pages for compo. Is it advisable. My kid usually can write up to 3.5 or 4 pages with good phrases. I thinks 3 pages only limit kid to using good phrase, so is this PSLE standard to write only 3 pages? Please advise. Thanks

Some teachers are more conservative and err to the side of caution or have their own preferences, e.g. some do not want their students to use flashback because at the end of the compo if you do not 'come back' to the current time, then the flashback is incomplete.

In this case regarding the length, I believe the teacher is concern about 多写多错 - be it in terms of language (grammar), content (irrelevant) and/or incorrect 'flexing' (a.k.a. spamming of good phrases inaccurately).

One thing for sure is, in the marking criteria, there is no such thing for being marked down/penalised due to 'excessive' length of compo. What's the mark range your child has been getting? Has it been consistent? During the 誊清 (correction/2nd draft), besides length, what are the common issues raised by the teacher?

No. But if your child writes excessively out of key point, it's unconstructive. well developed Key points should be around 3-4pg (240 words per page). 文笔很好,懂得发挥写作技巧的学生大可尽管发挥。但要切记只发挥考题重点。

I think You can safely ignore your classroom teacher's advise and encourage your child to go for it and write 3.5-4 pages. In PSLE there is no formal limit to how long your child can write.

Next grading is not according to page length but content and language. So long compositions do not really matter as long as your child are cleared of
            1) Sentence construction mistakes and
            2) grammar and vocabulary mistakes.

So if your child can do it, do encourage them to write more.

                Hi yorkie,

Here's my comment in addition to phtthp's reply to this question on the 2019 PSLE thread:

Yes, it is good to revise Pri 4's 词语 too - besides knowing how to pronounce them and understand their respective meanings, it is necessary to know how to write them, esp. the 识写字.

You can do so with the help of hand books like these:
                https://i.ibb.co/1KbrNqT/handbook.jpg\">https://i.ibb.co/3kwcJDH/chnvocab.jpg\">

This series' assessment books have comprehensive vocab list too:
                https://i.ibb.co/fnsVz5v/wkly.jpg\">

HCL versions are available for the 2nd and 3rd book.
