Hi guys, anyone can quip in? 🙂
How easy do you think access would be to St Hilda’s considering my situation and also what are your thoughts on Haig Girls? Anyone with kids in either school who can provide some feedback? Many thanks everyone 🙂
You should be able to get in without ballot for SHPS Phase 2A1 <1km. HGS Phase 2C > 2km stands a good chance of no ballot but can’t be too sure about that. Given that they aren’t even in the same Phase, best thing for you to do would be to apply for SHPS in Phase 2A1 and wait to see the situation at HGS in Phase 2C.

That said, given the SHPS is most likely the more convenient school (to you), I don’t see why you would even need to consider HGS.

        Thanks for this 🙂

2A1 should be for < than 1km but I’m >2km away from SHPS. Also I was only a student for a couple of years. Although MOE says I qualify I’m feeling a little nervous about it hence why I’m considering HGS as backup. Basically want to know how good my chances are of getting into SHPS especially since I’m told it’s so sought after now?

Sorry typo. You should be safe for SHPS Phase 2A1 SC > 2km.

As long as you are accepted as a member of the Alumni Association before the due date, you are in Phase 2A1. It doesn’t matter if you have studied there for 1 year or 6 years, you will be treated the same. SHPS is a GEP school, therefore, there are bound to be alumni who spend less than 3 years in the school.

Thanks a lot for the info.

Is there no open house for St. Hilda’s? I tried searching online and nothing came up.

Popular schools rarely organised open house.

You could contact your alumni association to see if they will be organizing any school events (eg funfair) soon, then you can bring your child to look see. Alternatively, link up with your long-lost primary school mates. I’m sure at least some of them have kids currently studying there.

My own alumni association’s FB publicizes school events and all alumni are welcome to join the events (don’t have to be 2A1 paid member even). Plenty of us parents bring our kids back to visit our old school, visit the teachers and canteen stalls etc.

Thanks for the info all! I went to HGS open house today and I quite like the vibes of the school. The girl who was assigned to show us around was very articulate and poised and I notice many of the others were. Quite torn now. Anyone able to share their thoughts on HGS?

I’m not expert but I think since u r alumni to st hilda, u should jus go for it. Ppl r trying to get in but not alumni so have to do pv or jus 2c. Both phase have to ballot. Alumni stage I think should b safe.

i, i’m a newbie here…my daughter will be entering Primary 1 in 2021. Thinking of applying for Kong Hwa since my new address will be within 1km for SC. Most likely will be subject to balloting. Any views on what are the alternatives available? Much appreciated, thanks!

                        Go to https://www.onemap.sg/

SchoolQuery and select Find Schools Near a Building.

Should help you build a shortlist.
