I belong to the SC 1-2km category. Based on the risk matrix, seems like My child will have a better chance to ballot for Zhang De instead. Views?

You might not have chance to ballot for ALPS at all. For Zhang De if you are 1-2km as well, you are likely to be successful without ballot.

Yeah Zhang De is within 1km. Same for Radin Mas, but its just waste of my time applying for Radin Mas with the high probability of heavily over subscribed and low vacancies from the earlier phases.

You still stand a chance for balloting for Radin Mas since you are within 1km, just that the rate of success could be lower. It depends on if you can accept to go to backup school in case of failure in P2C. Else just go for Zhang De which had not been balloting for SC <1km for the last few years.

But even until 3pm or 4pm, the number might still fluctuate as many parents actually come in last minute on day 3 afternoon. Chances for 1-2km to have a balloting chance is very slim close to zero. Even if balloting the chance is tough too, like in 2017 was 2.5 applicants to 1 vacancy for 1-2km folks.

Other than the fact that the school is new and managed by Principals with proven track record, i think the ALPS location is also relatively good. Quiet and not much distraction nearby. School has also achieved quite diversely in sports and other intellectual competitions.

As for Zhang de, it is actually walking dist from Tiong bahru plaza which can be a potential distraction but I dont read much negative feedback about ZDPS on the kiasuparent forum too. Achievements are also average considering ZDPS has been around much longer than ALPS - shows that maybe the teachers are not as driven or somehow do not have the bandwidth to push the boundaries beyond their classroom curriculum. -

I was having the same concern on Zhang De location which is close to shopping mall, that’s why I had opt for ALPS when I did registration in 2017.
