        Hi,

So can I ask if the dream school cut off is 240 and the child get 239, it is worth putting this as Option 1, so that atleast there is some hope. If not it would by default go to 2nd choise whose last year cut off could be say 238.

Putting 6 schools in priority seems like a XXXXX on its own! That we parents play I feel to a certain extent for our kids.. :(.

        THanks all helpful souls.
U can still put in as a choice - the system will not stop you even your T score is below the COP ( 2018)
Use the first three choices well - V near to your Dream sch & COP. Nobody knows COP movement till the release day, there is Hope 🙂

Yes lor, parents need to do Strategy plans for the choices- it is gd to visit the schs to see the culture - look at how the kids behave, check distance if your kid accept- Bring your P6 to the sch to see around eg canteen , vending machines -
Importantly the p6 must feel comfortable and \"feel at Home\" this gona be a at least 4yrs journey - Long hours in Sec sch !

Therefore, you are right in saying that \"no harm putting dream school as first choice\". I mean, there's really no penalty if you choose to put a (dream) school whose COP last year is 5 points above your current t-score as first choice. Who knows how the COP will change this year.

What's important is that there are enough 'back-up', especially for the 5th and 6th choice. Best to have at least schools that's 5 to 10 points below your COP as your 5th and 6th choice to prevent you from getting caught out. I believe last year was a year where a lot of parents / students were surprised by an increase in a number of schools' COP.

ya last yr, a number of sch in COP range of high 220s to 230s went up fr 2or 3 to 4 or 5 pts -
seem like the 2018 papers are more manageable for the mass P6s.
High ability sch COP remains quite constant - parents better go n see data of 2016/2017 and 2018 COP - my guess 2019 papers may not differ as much fr 2018 ( previous yrs too many \"complains\" on difficult psle qn)

CL Oral for some of the schools that has conducted Prelim Oral exam till date:
                  - 友谊 (小学毕业)
                  - 爱国(国庆日)
                  - 健康生活 (运动,饮食习惯)

*For those parents whose children attended the June sch holiday oral workshop, do remind your kids to revise the booklet we went through (all these topics were included in the 21 topics listed in it 😄 )

Your game plan is diff, ya?

You need to put your affiliated school into the top 2 choice or else you will lose the benefit, 对不对?

Assume you miss your top 2 choices and your T score is 230. Another student's 1st choice school is the same as your 3rd choice school and he also got 230, he will enter first. If enough of such situations occur to fill up the spaces of that school, you might even miss out on your 3rd choice. Generally, as a simple guide, COP doesn't change much from year to year because the bell curve is generally similar ( this is especially so for top schools)
This is not true. There has always been misconception every year by parents every year. Under current system, entry to secondary school is by merit (t-score) first, choice matters very little.

                        For example,
                        1. Student A - PSLE t-score 230, Student B - PSLE t-score 230
                        2. School C - COP 230
                        3. Student A - 3rd choice (and can't qualify for the first 2 choices), Student B - 1st choice
Student A will still get ahead if his t-score is higher than Student B. What you see in item 1., is a rounded figure, there are decimals behind the t-score which comes into play in such a tie. Hence, if Student A real t-score is 230.4 and Student B t-score is 230.1, Student A will always be posted to School C ahead of Student B regardless of the choice.

                        See above.
I am not sure where you are getting this information from. This has been openly discussed in our school contact time with our principals last year that when there is a tie, choice comes first.

If you wanted to use 230.4 vs 230.1 it's no longer a tie, isn't it?

so yes it a student's T score is 230.4 he will get his place in XYZ school ahead of another student with 230.1
