Now that toppers are no longer being announced, and PSLE itself is being done away with, how will such perceptions be formed?
PSLE hasn’t been ‘done away with’. It’s still there, albeit with a different scoring system. Therefore, it’s not impossible to form a perception by ‘ranking’ schools based on their number of AL4 scorers, AL6 scorers, AL8 scorers etc if such numbers are available.
It depends on luck sometimes. Rulang is one example. It becomes ultra super hot after a top scorer emerged from there x years ago. So does that tuition / enrichment centre that girl attended. Even though there is a chance that the top scorer student is an outliner for many years to come, it doesn't matter. A perception has been formed. Everyone will want their kids to go there if they can, hoping that their own kids turns out to be the best as well.Dino\" post_id=\"1927479\" time=\"1565251044\" user_id=\"6726:
If a school with more than 100 places left start grooming out AL4s, that school will suddenly become popular.
And if such numbers are available, without a doubt you will hear about it. -
I remember the schools used to have this KPI called “value-addedness” (which in correct English should be “added value” actually). That (to me) was a better indicator at the quality of teaching.
It’s easy to take a crop of smart kids (eg a high ability class) and “produce” As out of them (actually they did it, not the teacher). It’s far far harder (and more worthy of praises) to take a struggling student from a lower ability class (scoring C or D) and propel him to A. Which are the schools that do that? -

It is not enough for one student (from a non GEP school or SAP school) to rise above it all, that's why parents want \"insurance\" by going after popular schools. Anyway, I still think if your child is naturally strong in academic studies, the system will pull them out into GEP or top schools eventually.

Hi Melanie,
I notice that some of the schools have more than 100 seats left. Just why are the kiasur singporeans not interested in these schoosl? These schools are not located in Pulau Ubin or some other distant location. Why then noone likes these schools? Some of these schools like Anwar Abraham school have been around for 20+ years as well.
Please help me understand.
Kiasu Melanie
I think you are talking about Ahmed Ibrahim Primary school. This is actually a good school. The kids of my friend attended there P1-P6.
No idea why this school is not high on the wish list.
Anyway, with more than 6k seats remaining, I hope you will be able to land a place for your kid.

Hi
We are left with the following options for 2CS and all 3 schools are in the 1-2 km range.
1. Sembawang Primary - 16
2. Wellington Primary - 39
3. Woodlands Ring Primary - 34
Accessibility wise, all 3 schools are almost the same. Which of these schools has a good holistic approach, as well as a healthy academic environment? Which one should we go for? Thanks. -
