Since there are so many foodies here: any suggestions for a quiet dinner for 2 tomorrow night? Not too expensive (under $40 per head?), preferably in the west/central area. Other requirements are no chilli, no dairy, not too heavy food (waistline considerations). Japanese, maybe? Thanks!
Not a foodie but sharing a favourite Jap restaurant that my family frequents on special occasions. We enjoy going to Tomi Sushi. You can try their Novena outlet at Velocity http://www.tomisushi.asia/novena/

If you fancy atas vegetarian options, there's Sufood @Raffles City or Elemen @Harbour Front

Also not a foodie, but our go-to not-too-expensive, not-too-heavy dinner in the central area is the Man Man Unagi restaurant in Tanjong Pagar. Not exactly good for a quiet dinner, but good for a quiet stroll after.

Thanks for the suggestions! I’ll have a look. We’re not too keen on vegetarian though - we like our meat! Just small portions. Any others? Other (non-spicy) cuisines besides Japanese? Vietnamese?

              Hi Slmkhoo

I felt quite sorry for u in the other thread but all’s well now, thanks to SMC!
I quite like the little French eatery/restaurant opened by the Savuer Group at the shophouses next to Cathay Cinema there(sorry forgot the restaurant name). They have like 3-4 course French cuisine less than $100 for 2 and portions are small. Restaurant is small and not crowded the last I went. I liked the ambience and the food.

                  Touchy topic…

The policy change is okay to close up the loopholes if one is out to make use of the loopholes. But then there are 2 groups of children which I felt needed to be tweak because it is not entirely their fault. The system should not fault them. No…not because they don’t like MTL hor.

Totally empathise those who join in the wagon at P4/P5. Tough. Can do but doable with difficulty.

There is a controversial NTU freshmen orientation cheer circulating around. Sorry I burst out laughing when I played the video but DH gave me a very face palm look.

\"Can do\" or not really depends on the situation. I don't want to get into arguments, but for some families, it can be very hard to teach MTL overseas. Parents may not know enough, it may not be possible to get tutors (not everyone goes to big cities with Chinese populations, and even within China, it's not always possible to get tutors to teach standard Mandarin in rural areas), it may cost too much to pay tutors (not everyone is on expat pay), kids may have enough trouble adjusting back to Singapore and catching up in 3 subjects...

Yes, it's true that the MTL exemption may have been overused by some, but my personal view is that the policy may have swung a bit too far in the other direction for some situations. Anyway, as I said, I don't want to argue over this, which is why I am not replying on the other thread.

Thanks for the suggestion. Too much dairy in French cooking though - but I may go with friends one day, without husband!

As for the the other thread, I was so busy that day that I didn't login till later at night and didn't see what was originally said, though I guessed as much that I might have been singled out. What to do when people get angry? I'll just let things simmer down.
