Raffles Institution (Year 1-4)

Hi everyone,
We are delighted that DS received a CO via DSA. But we will be out of town during most of Oct and Dec, so we will only have Nov to prepare the Y1 items like school uniform, books, shoes etc.
Uniform-wise we can just go to Bibi and Baba, so thatโs easy.
But when will the book list be available?
And how do we know what house t shirts to buy?
How strict is the school when it comes to white shoes and socks?
What kind of school bags do you recommend for Y1?
How often do the boys need to bring laptops to school?
Thank you. -

To bring better value to our students, the School will be working with the new uniform supplier to evaluate and fabricate uniforms in cooler and more comfortable materials that will be available for sales from 1 November 2019.

The current uniform is already lighter and thinner compared to his primary school's. So I think the new Y1 cohort will certainly find the new uniform very comfortable
As for the PE tees, they are expected to change back into their uniforms after PE lessons so the current materials are good enough. But of course dri fit will be nice especially for those in Sports CCA. -
May I know what subjects do the boys take in Year 1? Is HMT offered to all students or only those who took HMT for PSLE?
Thank you. -

Luxedream,
May I know what subjects do the boys take in Year 1? Is HMT offered to all stud5ents or only those who took HMT for PSLE?
Thank you.
All eligible students are advised to take HMT in RI. The school will give the necessary form on registration day (in a folder) to let you confirm which you are eligible for and what you intend to take. Submission of forms is on the same day (probably can submit on some other specified date, but no worries, all datelines are stated in the folder, just follow), and I recall they had some teachers at the back of the hall to collect the forms and I saw parents asking questions, you can probably check it out that day.
The boys take
Core subjects
like English, (H)MT, Math, Science, 3 Humanities (Lit, Geo and History).
And non-examinable compulsory subjects
like Music, Art and Computing (for several weeks each - the class will be split into 3 groups to take these subjects with other classes - eg 1/3 of the class will be taking one of these subjects at any one time period.) And philosophy and pe and Character & Leadership Education too.
Some do 3rd lang too.
Some do elective programmes and/or enrichment programmes.
Information (programme and application details) will be given on registration day and when school reopens for the different programmes. -

We won't be in Singapore on registration day, so I'm a little nervous and trying to gather as much info as possible.
For Y1-2, are Physics, Chem, Bio considered 1 Science subject or 3 separate subjects? If it is 1 Science subject, is the syllabus similar to other schools' \"Lower Sec Science\"?
Thank you.
