Who does not carry a hp?

Guess the issue is not whether one owns a hp, but whether ones knows their priorities & managed their time & their job well. Imagine a helper watch YouTube & chats with all her kakis just bcoz she feels lonely (not know how to manage herself/emotions well) to justify her use, then forgets the timely medical needs of our elderly or burn cooking or worst leave cooking till on fire setting the house & elderly/kiddo trapped ...
Who does not carry a hp?
Even I don’t always hv the luxury of sitting with my hp 24/7 not even 12/7! My helper was very diligent when she first came, so she picked up fast in her work. But at some point in time, she slacked. Caught her a few times 6 mths back either hiding her hp under the kitchen cloth or the load of laundry as she pretends to iron, once i noticed her quiet beside the washing machine but it wasn’t in use. I walked up each time, lifting up the kitchen cloth, load of clothes for ironing or the detergent box to point at her hp & simply asked her “what is this?”. I hvnt seen her using her hp during working hours since, and only after cleaning up after dinner will she be on her hp. No worries then. She knows my expectations & how firm I can get. Training her to behave & manage herself well. Guess it’ll not be easy for FTWM. -
Tks ladies for advice
It is a mega scale project that I hv to deal with. -

you are going to hire a maid to care for your father. if she is given access to a mobile phone and wi fi, she will be holding on to it instead of caring for your father. since you do not stay with your father, it's hard to monitor.

my parents' maid was allowed to use the mobile phone for 2 hours every night. she was supposed to put it on the table at 11pm every night but she never does. -

In fact, all my (ex/current) helpers come without one. Maybe because I have earlier made known to my agent I only want a maid w/o HP.

I suppose experienced maids definitely want HPs. Maybe new maids, especially those who are working here for the first time, will come w/o one.
At some point of time, my maids did ask if they could buy HPs but I would say no. I told them that I pay you salary and you are here to work, not play with HPs. Then you might as well go back kampung and I would just get a new maid, I am sure the new maid will come without a HP and I would still be paying the same amount salary.
Another 5 more months and my current helper’s 2yr contact will be up. I will see if I can still find one who comes w/o HP. -

For your parents' maid, does the hp belong to her or not? -
Just sharing my experience. I have had 4 domestic helpers over the past 9 years. Other than the first which was fresh, the rest were transfer maids. I liked hiring transfer maids cos I could interview and observe in person and my rationale is that after the first "failure" they will be more motivated to make the relationship work. Also I could state my household requirements - young kids, fussy ah ma, etc and they can come into the household with eyes open. In fact I will usually be rejected by many transfer maids before finding one that is willing to work for my household and so far this strategy has worked. However, I used agencies in heartland areas, not the Orchard areas - reason being helpers who frequent those areas are more demanding in expecting higher pay, more perks and less work - whereas those transfers at the heartland area are from working class families. Handphones were no go at first and gradually relaxed after 6 months to use at night after all household duties are finished. I did tell all helpers that I do not tolerate yakking on the phone for hours with earpiece during the day. All on their own mobile plan. However, I found out later the helper network is strong and they had free wifi access using neighbours’ wifi courtesy of their friends. Other than helper dynamics, agents too matter. Different agents too have different opinions over handling helpers and some are pro helper rights etc can have afternoon nap, must allow use of hp etc. So getting helpers from agents like these would be problematic if they don’t match your household requirements. Best is getting an agent that can help counsel problematic helpers. So far none of my agents did but my niece’s agent did for hers re handphone usage and her helper is still with the household.

What is the timeline for her to find another employer? Believe you are still liable for the levy in the interim.

I had one who refused to transfer and insisted on going home. They let her sign a document and was sent home. Will it be the same for yours if she cannot find an employer after the timeline. My other maids managed to transfer out within the timeline. -
The usual timeline is 21 days, after which time, it’s all loss for eyer, maid, & agency. The heaviest loss is on eyer coz of hefty commission to agent. MOM made eyers pay for everything related to helper even if the errand party is not the eyer, incl her airfare & she must be covered with insurance till she leaves SG in case of uneventful injuries, etc. So best ensure they are sent thro departure hall & you retain her WP & cancel ASAP. Never delay or yr liability technically continues. I never agree to send helper across to Batam or JB & pls ensure you don’t agree to this kind of arrgmt just so she can ‘extend’ her WP validity to find eyers!
Some eyers learn the smart way by cancelling WP & send maid home esp those cases of lying, stealing, abusing family members. Some 舍不得 comm paid to agent & wants that “free” replacement. Nothing is really free. Agencies will still earn coz they’ll still charge some fee as they “help” process next “free” helper - MOM fee is now $35 if u apply direct via MOM online, FDW Insurance shld not cost more than $300 unless u’re still in time to ‘transfer’ previous helper’s pro-rated premium, runner’s fee to collect yr new helper if mobilized fr overseas, etc. Agents also earn by charging each of the helper a commission to find new eyer or transfer eyers.
