The usual timeline is 21 days, after which time, it’s all loss for eyer, maid, & agency. The heaviest loss is on eyer coz of hefty commission to agent. MOM made eyers pay for everything related to helper even if the errand party is not the eyer, incl her airfare & she must be covered with insurance till she leaves SG in case of uneventful injuries, etc. So best ensure they are sent thro departure hall & you retain her WP & cancel ASAP. Never delay or yr liability technically continues. I never agree to send helper across to Batam or JB & pls ensure you don’t agree to this kind of arrgmt just so she can ‘extend’ her WP validity to find eyers!

Some eyers learn the smart way by cancelling WP & send maid home esp those cases of lying, stealing, abusing family members. Some 舍不得 comm paid to agent & wants that “free” replacement. Nothing is really free. Agencies will still earn coz they’ll still charge some fee as they “help” process next “free” helper - MOM fee is now $35 if u apply direct via MOM online, FDW Insurance shld not cost more than $300 unless u’re still in time to ‘transfer’ previous helper’s pro-rated premium, runner’s fee to collect yr new helper if mobilized fr overseas, etc. Agents also earn by charging each of the helper a commission to find new eyer or transfer eyers.

I have employed a family transferred maid by applying to MOM directly. But have not done direct hiring from their home country. I know of people who have hired directly from Philippines and Myanmar. A lot of cost savings.

May I ask about the payment of salary to helpers?

For instance, if she starts work on 11 Sep, her payday will be 11 Oct plus number of Sundays she worked?
Do we literally count the number of Sundays she work to compensate?
          Thank you.

yup...for every sunday she doesn't have off day, it has to be compensated.
            4 sundays mean $80.
the agency did the calculation and pay is given end of the month.

What is the timeline for her to find another employer? Believe you are still liable for the levy in the interim.

I had one who refused to transfer and insisted on going home. They let her sign a document and was sent home. Will it be the same for yours if she cannot find an employer after the timeline. My other maids managed to transfer out within the timeline.
agency just informed me yesterday they found her an employer...pending approval from MOM.
my other maids earlier found new employers within 1-2 weeks...this one is really so jialat the agency had to bring her to other partners :slapshead: I guess it must be due to her inability to speak english. honestly, she cannot be sent home because she still has an outstanding loan of $1900. the levy is not much since my father is above 67.
thank goodness I didn't have this problem when the kids were younger...back then there wasn't this problem with mobile phones. it was largely due to poor work attitude.

agencies benefit the most...when they market the transfer maid to a new employer, they enjoy agency fees. the employer pays lesser since maid is already here, so no need to pay for thumbprint, MOM course, courier fees which add up to $900 plus. it is very costly to get a maid now.

                  Star,
Don’t hv to worry abt calculations, even if u do direct hiring coz in the MOM approval letter, they provide the computation for per-day-pay based each maid’s agreed salary. So diff maid’s salary will hv diff per-day computation.

If she starts a y’day mid-mth, you just compute number of her days worked on that per-day salary and pay for that odd-mth, than start GIRO based on 1st of each month, if you prefer to hv best computation moving fwd. I like to clear off odd pymt mths first & not worry abt calculations every other time if her contract ends.

Just ensure her salary is paid within 7 days of her dues. That’s why I prefer GIRO - so I don’t overlook & theres clear record of my pymt of her salary.

What do I need to prep in the house before the helper arrives? New towel, shampoo, etc ? Thank you.
