Why do they disregard your instructions? Reading in the car is really bad. Reading at the dining table while eating when there are others around is simply rude.

Kiddos tried to do that and I simply take the book/phone right out of their hands.

yup reading in car without enough lighting is bad..I try to get them put down but reading during eating, actually I did that when I was young, after school eat alone most time..we usually eat without proper setting except eating as whole family..kids have food/dishes in one bowl..usually after school/stayback their lunch is almost early dinner so just 2 of them or any 2 of us eating.. I find it ok la when you are at home just dont do it when eating together with more people..

That’s not unusual at all. When kids were still in pr sch, they eat their lunch on their own. Now that they are in their teens even dinner can be at separate timings. I try to sit and chat with them while they eat. My simple request is for them to put away the book or phone during that short 15min to 30min. Especially if there is someone else dining together.

I can be overbearing when it comes to certain things and this is one of them. Even when niece, nephews or friends’ kids come over, my house, my rules, I take away their gadgets and books during meal times.

I'm like Funz - when my kids were younger, if I laid down the law, they would have to obey. If they didn't, they wouldn't like the consequences, and would end up obeying me anyway. Now they are grown, I cannot enforce, but the habits we developed when they were young pay off now.

MKS - for your kids' sake, sometimes you need to be the bad guy. Your daughters are growing up and you don't have much time left to shape them. If you believe that your instructions are for their good, you should harden your heart.

This morning’s breakfast at Food Court, we broke one record. DH and I had a total of 5 (small) cups of tea. The cup is Ya Kun size, each cup is good for 2-3 slips only.

At $1.40 each cup, that’s a total of $7! I can get a box of 100 bags BOH tea for less than $7. Told DH next time I am going to bring a small thermos flask of Teh-O kosong. I don’t think it’s worth to pay so much for TehO kosong.
